Anyone know a good way to relax curl besides Japanese Straightening?

I dont want it pin straight, maybe a bit less curly since I have tight spiral curls? Anyone know a good place to go to? Thanks!

I'm not sure- PLEASE DON'T TRY THIS WITHOUT SEEKING PROFESSIONAL HELP, but why can't you just put a perm on an comb your hair straight insted of putting rollers in it? I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANYONE LISTENING TO WHAT I SAID.

Thats a good idea but I will let someone else try it first.

Nora, I've heard of that working for people too, but I'm too chicken to try it out! If I screw it up there's no way I could get it redone professionally... but if anyone's had success with this, let us know!

Thay have relaxing kits in the stores I usually get it from Target. It is pretty much just like a reverse perm but the stuff is thick. I have done it a zillion times. My hair is ultra ultra curly. You need someone to help you do it, because it is hard to do the back of your own head. The directions are very easy to follow. It costs under $10. Huge difference from the salons. Hope this helps.

I used the have one of the guys (Rob) at Town and Country Salon and Spa in Huntingtion do my relaxing in Hs. It cost about 65 bucks I think back then 1996. And it was great. Still had a body but my hair wasen't curly.

Most salons have relaxers...that is what everyone used before the Japanese straightening. Most salons have different strengths...you should be able to tell them what you want and they will tell you what they have that will work for you.

THese relaxers dont make your hair pin straight...i did it for 10+ years. THey do what I think you want...they take out some of the curl and kink. Christies and Bayside has a lady there who does a great job.

I did the combing the perm solution through my hair to ironically take out a perm. My friend did it for me. I don't think we left the solution on as long as the box said to do a perm. I had no problems or real damage to my hair.

I actually liked it because my hair dried really straight to where it was almost pointy...LOL Of course I had to have it trimmed afterwards.

ps. I also colored my hair then. I just didn't do one thing right after the other.

I have thick wavy hair, I usually blow it out straight, but it never comes out as straight as I'd like it to. A friend of FMIL has curly hair and she lent me her hot plate and said this really straightens her hair out. I tried it and I've never seen my hair straighter, I love it. Its called Hot Tools Professional and they sell it at beauty supply stores. I brought a ceramic hot plate which is supposed to prevent your hair from breaking/burning. I love straight hair but I'm too chicken to do that Japanese thing too.
