My honeymoon cruise is departing from Spain. We booked it with airfare included. It works out to be about $1,900 for both of us round trip just for the airfar alone.
So, I went on travelocity and they have tickets through April for $400 round trip to Spain (you know those cheap leftover fares). I am hoping that fares for may will be around the same amont but will not know until another few weeks until they start selling them. Meanwhile there are only a few more cabins left that you can purchase without air so I am really agianst the clock. Here is my dilema- If I cancel the airfare, I cannot put it back on later at the same rate. It is sure to be more money because there are so few cabins in that class (airfare included class) available. My concern is that the fares may wind up being way more money in May than they are now. So- what should I do? Advice?

Re: Anyone know anything about airfares/travel?
Tara, look around a bit more for airfare!!! You'll be traveling kinda around peak time, but it should not be $1900, its too much. Is that the airfare rate with the cruise?
Call a few agents, and price them on airfare only for May. I wouldn't wait for airfare sales, but you should be able to get something for $600-$700/per person, assuming you're flying into a major airport.
Also, if you're under 26 when you're traveling you may be able to get a discount rate through STA travel, if you buy a discount card for like $25. Some european airlines offer that.

Re: Anyone know anything about airfares/travel?
My girlfriend just booked flights from Charlotte to Mardrid for May 4th for her honeymoon. She looked high and low for good fares, and ended up paying $600 per ticket.
Thought this might help you get an idea of a range airfare.....

Well I think it is slightly high but only by about 100-200 a ticket. My friend when to portugal and spain on his honeymoon and they spent 1500$ to fly round trip to spain. You are flying at the start of high tourist season in europe so it does not surprise me. I would expect to pay between 500-900 a person. Look around some more - if you book airfare separetly remember if you travel a lot and book with a company you will fly again in the near future with you can get a credit for your ticket if you the price goes down. Then you can use that for your next trip.

How do you get credit for a price drop on airfare? I never heard of that.

Re: Anyone know anything about airfares/travel?
My friend got it on american and I have heard of other people getting these deals as well- so when we went to disney last january on delta and the price went from 165 down to 124 FH called and they gave him a certificate for the difference and he used it when he came to visit me this past fall. I believe you have to book the flight thru the airline though - we originally bought the tickets on delta's website and when the price went down he simply called them and they mailed him the certificates. I have found that on many airlines the prices were actually better thru the airlines own website than it was on expedia or travelocity.

Re: Anyone know anything about airfares/travel?
I just booked airfare to Italy for the end of may - for $400pp. Last week, it was $800. I bought the seats (6 of them), and ran the search again - it was back to $800 again. I just happened to hit a window of opportunity and bought them out (this was on american). Keep checking often.
Some airlines will give you a price adjustment, but it depends on the fare rules. If you bought a special fare (which it doesn't sound like you did) you may not get the adjustment.
who did you book with? I think you'll be stuck searching for lower fares on that airlines only.

One word of caution - since you're connecting with a cruise, sometimes it's better to pay a little more $$ for the peace of mind that the cruise HAS to wait for your flight. If you book your own airfare and your flight is delayed, the cruise ship can leave without you. If the cruise books your airfare, they have to wait for you!

Actually the cruise ship does not actually wait for you if the flight is delayed (unless there are a few flights delayed) BUT they HAVE to get you to the next port of call on THEM. They do not have to do this if you do your own flights. I agree with Karen about the peace of mind issue - whatever you decide make sure you give yourself PLENTY of time to get to the ship the more hours the better

I think we will probably try to get to Spain the day before the cruise leaves just to be safe and to spend some time there so timing won't be an issue. I am going to check american now. Thanks girls.
