I know the brands out there...the thing is we aren't gourmet chefs. I just want durable pots that are moderately priced but are good quality. Any suggestions???

Re: Anyone know anything about pots??
Kathleen-
We just went through this! We were going to register for the Emerilware which is made by All-clad but much cheaper. however John really wanted stainless steel. SO when we were in Fortunoff, we spent about 45 min. with the manager of the cookware section. He went over every brand with us, including advantages and disadvantages. We ultimately went with the Kitchenaid set, as he felt that it was better than the Calphlon and much cheaper. it's not as good as the All-Clad but it still is good! he actually has used all of the brands and felt that for the $$, Kitchenaid was a good buy.
Hope this helps!!

Re: Anyone know anything about pots??
i cook all the time but i got mine at target and the best ones are the stainless stick ones. always make sure it has the black in the pots ok. hope you find them. believe me you can find good ones for less than $60 and it would be a 12 - 24 piece set.

I don't really know much myself, but FH has said something about the ones with copper bottoms being the best.

Re: Anyone know anything about pots??
We registered for these at Macys: They are by Cuisinart... they often go on sale for $150... they are 18/10 stainless steel... then we added some non stick pans by the same brand... FI loves to cook and was soo excited to register for these!!
eta: they have a thick bottom, so they wont warp... something to look for!

They are but they are super expensive. FI fell in love with a set at Willams-Sonoma and they were like $800!! Needless to say, we aren't getting those!

You don't have to register for new ones... FI and I live together but bought a not so good set because we didn't have any $$! You know you need new ones when your food doesn't cook as well or the food is constatnly burning. I have heard good things about the Emerilware and that it lasts a long time!

We also have pots and pans from when we moved in - but we didn't buy the good stuff. I am definitely ready for new pots!

Re: Anyone know anything about pots??
Pefect Timing, Kathleen! I am going to register this weekend (w. mom ). We are just doing the basics - no decorative stuff yet, so I'm leaving Justin at home. Anyway, one of the things on the list is a cookware set - I'm hoping mom knows best. Currently, I'm using a mis matched set, and in the past year, have had to throw away two pots. Such a chef!

I'll try and scope out the cookware buyers tomorrow and get some answers. Promise to report back my findings!

Re: Anyone know anything about pots??
It really depends on your cooking needs & preferences...I don't like all non-stick pots...So we just registered for Simply Calphalon Stainless Steel
Then I registered for some non-stick skillets...Calphalon got high ratings in Consumers
you really should have a mix of non-stick, copper bottom (which distributes heat easily) and cast-iron.
non-stick is great for cooking foods that don't require a lot of heat, but if you are cooking with high heat, the non-stick pans are not good to use because they can't stand the high heat.
if you like steaks and such, you should really use a heavy pan without nonstick coating.
If you don't know a lot about cooking methods, it could help to do some research about them, or, if like Hollie you get a helpful and knowledgeful person while registering, you can just explain what foods you like eating and can see yourself cooking. the person SHOULD be able to take it from there.
Hope this helps- sorry it's long!
BTW- I LOVE FOOD (AND COOKING)

Re: Anyone know anything about pots??
FMIL purchased the 9 piece All Clad set. She swears by them! She also purchased for us a few non stick skillets and a roasting pan.
Hope it helps!

All-Clad is great but can be expensive! We wanted them but decided to register for something more economical but nice. I read recently that Emerilware nonstick was good, comparable to All-Clad's regular line . The manager at Fortunoff confirmed this. However the stainless steel Emerilware didn't do as well. I also read good things about the Wolfgang Puck cookware but I don't know where to get them!

Re: Anyone know anything about pots??
I'm getting Calphalon stainless. Once you scratch up non-stick, the pan is ruined.
