Anyone know anything about the Islip area?

We're trying to figure out where we can afford to live and there seem to be some affordable places in Islip. Anyone know anything about Islip, Islip Terrace, West Islip, or East Islip? Thanks!

I live in Islip and LOVE it (we couldn't find any houses in a decent area there under $325 or else we would have stayed--we are moving to Ronkonkoma)! IMO the order of the towns, starting from best... Islip, East Islip, Islip Terrace (parts getting bad), and West Islip...That's JMO. Central Islip not too good at all, so watch out for houses bordering on that area. Most of the houses under $300 we found were right on the CI border, which we did not want to do. The Islip school district seems good--FH graduated from Islip--they have a high rate going to college, many AP classes, etc. There is not too much diversity in Islip....It has a great Main Street with cute shops and excellent restaurants. Good luck!

ETA: I really don't know too much about West Islip...

Re: Anyone know anything about the Islip area?

I live in Islip and love it also. Although, I believe West Islip is considered a better district, I intend to move up to a house in Islip when the time comes. East Islip is a very nice neighborhood too, but the town is not as nice as Islip, like Nov04LIbride said, Islip town has shops, restaurants and bars.

I know people who grew up in Central Islip and Islip Terrace. I think they were nice once upon a time, but they have deteriorated in recent years.

I hope you find your dream home

Re: Anyone know anything about the Islip area?

we lived in an apartment in West Islip for 4 years. The only reason why we left is because the landlord is selling the house!e

I definately love the area! and wish we could have found another apartment in the area, but now we are in deer partk!

All of our friends are from the Islip, East Islip, Islip Terrace area, and they are great places to live! JMO!

Friends just bought a house in Islip Terrace!o

Re: Anyone know anything about the Islip area?

I live in West Islip, and it is a great area. Also most of the people who live in West Islip have had families in the area for generations. West Islip was one of the first towns established back when the Whalers came over to do whaling.
