I am going to be getting antique looking candalbras and pillars. Then Im going to get a few votives and rose petals to spread around the base.

Re: Anyone making their own CP?
At first this was something that I thought briefly about doing, but decided against it.
The idea that I had was to find really nice vase, and then to purchase the flowers through Sams Club. If you look on their website they have this special deal for wedding flowers (look under flowers, then bulk flowers, there are a ton of different kinds) where you can buy 200 stems of various kinds of roses for like $150.00. Then I was going to use some of those for rose petals, to scatter around the main vase, and maybe add some votive candles.

I considered doing that in order to save money but then decided against it for 2 reasons.
1. I am NOT crafty 2. I don't want to have to worry about yet another detail. there's plenty of other things that will need my attention.
you can go to a local florist and do simple bubble vases - they're not expensive.

FMIL and I discussed this option and she has offerred to be 'responsible' for this task. She is really crafty and so I think I will explore this option and see what we can make - I on the other hand am not so crafty so I probably would not have thought of this option on my own

I really like your idea of buying flowers bulk for the petals - I would like to have baskets of petals for our guest to throw after the ceremony this may be a good way to acquire those petals. Also - it is very designer if you make geometric designs on your table with petals. I will have to compare $$$ of buying myself or from a florist.

Re: Anyone making their own CP?
kinda....I bought bronze flat decorative plates and on the plates I have potpurri that has leaves, dried fruit, and pumpkins and I'm putting candles in the center of the plate. I got the stuff from White Barn Candle Co.
I found 'vase type high glass bowls' (no other way to describe them) that you can put a tall pillar candle in, then we are filling it half way up the candle with rose petals. Then we will be placing 6 votice candles (each a different fall color) around the perimeter of the vase. Then rose pedals sprinkled on the table. I will post a pic when I make the sample. I just bought the stuff from pier 1 imports the other day. Total coast $25..as opposed to 90 that the florist quoted me

Ok, so this is what I have SO FAR. its not done yet. I will be adding rose pedals to the inside of the vase thingy and also sprinkling them at the base of the vase thingy.

Looks great so far! I'm doing something very similar. I was wondering since you're using colored candles are they scented? I got a lot of responses about not using them because people think they interfere with tasting food, but no one seems to worry about the fragrance of their 100s of flowers, which it seems to me pose just the same issue. And I really like the look of color better. Just curious.

my MOH is making them. we found glass plates w/ a 4x4 square in the middle 1' down that are for candles. she put in a styrofoam brick and stuck silk flowers in it w/ 2 candles that will float in the middle. i love it! FM Kiddo115 (06er!) for pics!!

Re: Anyone making their own CP?
I bought nice glass vases from Ikea and candles from genwax.com. My florist is going to make make 'wreathes' to go around the base of the vase and I have 2 votive candles for each end of the table - it's oval.
I did... I bought double-walled glass bowls from Michael's, filled the walls with leaf garland, bought floating leaf candles and put them in the bowl. The Inn was supposed to put silk leaves all around the table to accentuate it, but they forgot. And, on the table, around the centerpieces, were the favors - hanging tea light lanterns... all in all, it cost about $400, and that included the cost of the centerpieces AND favors
