anyone not getting a cardbox or birdcage

I am thinking of not gettign a card box or burdcage ro anything.
I don't tink many people will bring actual gifts, so I'm not having a gift table, so I guess people will just give us cards.

Will people think this is weird & be looking for a place to put them?
iknwo they make purses for this, but I am not goign to walk around with one. I may get one, but not carry it around with me.

FH & dad were joking about getting a ransom-style breifcase

i have decided to put fmil in charge of the cards so as people give them to us, we will give them to her.

i'm not getting either a cardbox or a birdcage. people will just hand you envelopes and you can keep them all together at your table, or a bag under your table or something. my mom said she thinks cardboxes are tacky b/c it's like 'ooh, give me a present.' i am not saying i agree with that, but we just decided it's not worth it to get one.

Honestly, I've never even heard of this or seen one at a wedding...so it seems like something we will be doing without.

I am not getting a card box...whatever we get goes straight to my mom...I will have her hold them.

We are not having a bird cage or cake box - I dont like them
My grandmother is making me a buste bag (Italian traditional satin bag that $ is put in at Italian weddings) out of my mom's wedding dress. I wont have to be stuck holding onto it though, cause the grandmother traditionally holds it.

my parents hadn't heard of teh bo either, but all the recent wedding I've been to except one had it & that one had a table.

My parents were tellignme about the bag ( my mom is Italien)- i think that's what my mom had, but I didn't know abou the grandma holding it.

My mom thought that was a little od fashioned for us though ( we're a little removed from the Italian traditions)

So , yeah I was thinking a bag under the table, or mom or FFIL, or my brother would hold them.
They are the only people responsible enough

We're doing the same thing, grandma's in a wheelchair so she' ll be in charge of holding the bag and cards

I'm actually buying a cheap white mailbox on Ebay (the one with the flag on the side) and I'm going to dress it up with silk, tulle, ribbons and flowers in my wedding colors. I won't carry around a bag. It's kind of symbolic because I'm a mail carrier.

We are using a real mailbox (FI's grandmother made it when he had his metal shop) and my aunt is decorating it with ribbon and tulle. When it is done, I will post a pic.

I ran out of time to get one or make one...I ended up using the basket that my sister made for the favors for my shower....it worked perfectly for the cards! Any gifts were put on the floor around the table the basket was placed on

I'm sure people, if they do not see a place to put them, will definitely just hand them to you. I dont think they will be looking around wondering why you don't have one because it is not something that EVERYONE does. You just have to decide if you want someone else to hang onto them once they are given to you

We won't be having the cardbox either. We're just going to have an ivory satin bag and probably have FH's mom hold it. Every wedding we've gone to we give the person we know (bride or groom) the envelope when we say goodnight.

i won't have a cardbox or birdcage either...

i believe some venues don't even allow them, as they don't want to be held responsible for potential loss. last wedding i attended i was to give the envelope to the bride's father as no one else would take it...

I am working on a mailbox right now. My mother got a really nice hand painted mailbox from a friend and she kept her old one so I could make it a wedding card mailbox. I will post pics when I am done!

i went to one wedignthat had a box, and i had wrapped a little book about wedding quotes & taped it to my card, so it wouldn't fit the space in the box. Doh!

& no one brought gifts, so I didn't want to just leave it next to the box. I gave it to the the best man, b/ c the couple was off dancing. I never thought of giving it at the end.
that's a good idea.

We've been joking that my mom will just bring her big, everyday pocket book- the cards will fit in there fine.
