Anyone proposed after you, getting married before you?
Original post by Bride4Mike07
My FBIL proposed in November, 3 months after us. They decide they're getting married after us in late '07 or '08. Turns out, they change their minds They moved it up to March '07....3 months later! Mind you, when my FH proposed in August, we wanted to marry in March and everyone thought is was too soon, so we delayed it until July!!!! Now, no1 seems to have a problem w/ that date! I guess that's what happens when I too am getting married a month before my own sister and she's had her date for 2 years now. OH Well........that's familly for you!

I have just NEVER been able to understand why this should matter to anybody... what difference does it make?
I mean, certainly I'd be upset if somebody chose the same date, since then obviously it's tough for people to come to both weddings, or even maybe the same weekend, again for the same reason - that would be a busy weekend! But just simply for getting married before you? Or even within a few weeks or even months of you? What difference does it make? How does it hurt or even affect you in any way? I just don't get it!
FH's cousin is getting married the week before us. We were engaged for probably a good year before they were, and picked our date first... but it doesn't affect me in any way. What's the big deal? The biggest problem is really theirs - they've got to come back from the honeymoon in time for our wedding! Other than having another party to go to, it doesn't affect me at all!
Regardless of my own personal circumstance, btw in which i am affected, i just think cousins or friends within the same family should atleast have weddings in separate months its not the fact that shes getting married before me that bothered me its the fact that its 2 weeks before me, its so close to my own wedding. Its called having consideration and respect for others.

I think it's silly to get too upset about this. Why does their have to be malicious intent associated with picking a wedding date? My cousin got engaged 1.5 years before me, set his date very soon after his engagement...my entire family was thrilled. When FH proposed to me, I knew what I wanted: a short engagement (we've been together 5 years, what are we waiting for?) and a spring wedding...We're getting married in May, my cousin's getting married in July, and I am so looking forward to his wedding. Both events are mutually exclusive of each other, and I know that everyone in my family is looking forward to both. Everyone picks their dates for their own reason.

my sister, brother and I all got married within 8 months, completely out of order with our engagement orders. No one can get upset, because people have to choose the right time for them and their schedules...jmo

Well, I got engaged 2 weeks after my best friend, we are both teachers and she decided to have an October wedding, there was no way I was waiting another year to get married, I had to do it in the summer.

While I do agree that it is a silly thing to get upset over, if it was a friend it would be completely different but when its family that has the same family and they are getting married close to your date and people that would be invited to both have to travel naturally you would be upset. Some people may not come to your wedding b/c they went to theirs, these may be people that you really want to be a part of you day. Thats really what all the girls are upset about. Like I said I would care less if it was a friend and they got married the day before me-but family its seems to pull at those strings

I totally agree if people are planning their wedding a few weeks close to yours, especially if they are your family, but I don't think it makes ANY difference whether they were engaged first, after, or at the same time. We got engaged after 2 of our friends did, and we are getting married before both of them. In fact, we are getting married before them so that we don't interfere with their weddings which are in August and October. There was no way we were waiting a whole extra year just to get married after people who got engaged first.

One of my BM's got engaged 6 days after me. (no biggie they were dating 2 yrs. longer than us) She's getting married a month before me. (that's fine)BUT that's not even the beginning. Got her ring from the same jeweler!!! Bought a dress that is similiar to mine and now 2 days ago shows me our BM dresses for her BP and guess what THE SAME F*'&ING DRESSES just some are going to be halter. Then she has the nerve to ask which flowers I'm going to use. AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH Al of our friends are even like what the flip??????????

One of my bm's got engaged a week before xmas and I couldn't be happier. I just asked her not to pick certain weeks in May because I already had my hm booked and it couldn't be changed (time share thing). She is getting married in August 07 and I am just so happy for her. Fh best man got engaged before us but we have to get married before them because they set a 2010 date and I am not waiting that long.

Re: Anyone proposed after you, getting married before you?
My boyfriend proposed to me in November when I told my cousin she was very happy for me but joked I was stealing her thunder. Even though it was a joke I'm sure it carried some truth with it. But when he asked me to marry him my only thought was YES not on no I can't my cousin who has been engaged for 4 years will be mad I can't. I don't think so. I never talked about my wedding plans until after her wedding. The month before her wedding I was a happy helpful bridesmaid willing to do anything she needed. Now that her wedding is over (it was at the start of January) she told me she is so excited for my wedding and glad that I am getting married because she has something to look forward to. Girls your friends are not getting engaged to be nasty. The guys who do the asking most of the time are probably not even thinking of when your date is. They just think now is the perfect time to ask and i can't wait to make her my wife.

Re: Anyone proposed after you, getting married before you?
This has happened to me a BAGILLION times!!
Matt and I were the first of his friends to get engaged- others have his friends have gotten engaged after us and have set their date before us, as some numerous other friends from college and family members At first I was really frustrated, but then I remembered that we WANT to be married in December and that is why it leaves sooo much room for others to jump in front of you.
I hope you feel better...just remember that your day will come and it will be great!

Of course. My cousin proposed to his GF on this past new years and they are getting married 2 weeks before my wedding. It stinks cuz most of the fam will come up for his wedding but not mine 2 weeks later!

Re: Anyone proposed after you, getting married before you?
Hi, I'm going thorugh the same problem. My fiance's brother got engaged in jly 2006 and set their date for July 27/07, now we got engaged and we are both teachers and long weekends work for us. we know having ours in the summer with theirs would be not the best. So we chose May 19/07 . My fiance entire family is upset with it? That is the only date that will work. We did choose a xmas wedding but his parents said 'no' to that! I have no idea what to do but I feel like doing what ever the hell we want . But i dont want to start off ou marriage on a bad note. But we have argueed lots and its causing so much tension for all. HELLLP US!

This is where I'm at. A guy who's like a brother to me is getting married in october. We kinda jumped in front of him, but we needed a long weekend at the end of summer/beginning of fall. He had no issue, there was no question of maliciousness. One of our officiants got engaged to her guy a month ago and they're getting married in august. Shrug. I am a likkel worried about our officiant as it may be tough for her to focus on planning with us coming up a month later.
