Anyone putting earlier time on invites?

Original post by sparklycat

Hi,

I've already decided to put one half hour earlier on my invites because many of my family are notorious for being late. Some reception hall bms have told me to say an hour early-- do you think that's too early? I do have quite a few people coming from NJ to LI, so I'm wondering if I should put an hour earlier in case they get lost. Also, there will be refreshments and pastries if they do get there early.

For the prompt people, I will let them know the correct start time.

What do you think?

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. So I'm keeping it 1/2 hr early since I'm getting married at the hall. I just hope the really late ones don't walk in the middle of my ceremony!

I am probably the only one not putting an earlier time on mine. My ceremony is at 11:00am and we will start at 11:00. We have 3 coach buses picking up our guests at the hotel and bringing them over. Some locals will be driivng. If we start a lil late...I am not worried because my cocktail hour is extended.

What a relief! I am not putting an earlier time on the invites either. We thought about it and just decided against it.

Our ceremony is in Nassau at 4 and our CH is in Port Jeff at 7.30. We are taking pix in-between and quite frankly we just felt that those who want to be on time for the ceremony will, and if not they miss it. We can't forecast every little thing, it's way too stressful!

I think I'm going to put 15 minutes to a half an hour earlier on the invite. I'm sure some of FH's family will show up late and I don't want them walking in during my ceremony.

we'll prob put 6pm for a 6:15 start. an hour seems excessive.

I am form Miami and Latin. Latinos are notorious for being late and I have never been to a wedding that had less than an hour difference between the time on the invitaion and the actual time.

It's your day and you want it to go perfect. You have enough to worry about so make it an hour and don't worry too much.

I never thought about doing this. I am getting married at the church though...hmmm, not sure what to do.

I put 1/2 an hour earlier, which was suggested by my wedding coordinator, who is familiar with the RH. I assume the reception hall is familiar with the as well.

I'm really nervous because my RH said that the start time must coincide with the invite time, and they want a copy of the invitation 3 months in advance. If we want to put 1/2 hour earlier, we have to pay extra for the extra half hour. I think I will write 'promptly at 6PM ' on the invitation, and really plan on starting the ceremony at 6:10. I don't think we will need more than 20 minutes. I hope that is OK.
