My MIL did the Mary in the window thing. She kept telling me and my mom to do it. We didn't have a statue and figured it was an Italian custom and we aren't Italian...so we'd jinx it. MIL did it and it still rained that morning...cleared up for most of the day though! Good Luck.

I did start to pick up the St Anthony's prayer to find lost things! My mom does it all the time.

What about the old wives tale that you can't open your shower gifts with a knife. I've never heard of that so when I had my shower last week I had to open all the boxes without anything sharp. Lets just say I still have a lot of paper cuts on my hands.

Yes that one I've heard. I heard you aren't supposed to rip at all! At my sisters shower we did all the ripping after we showed her the boxes...what a pain.

I'm marrying Italian, I never knew they had so many superstitions until I got engaged! First the Jordan Almonds, then the Italian Wedding cookies, now religious statues and rosary's in places you'd never think to find them!
