Anyone read : A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

by Betty Smith?

I am having trouble getting through the first couple of chapters. But I heard it is fantastic...a classic!

I don't remember it 100% I read it in high school. But I do remember liking it! ENJOY!

Yes I read it. It's definitely got that 'school reading' type of feel in the beginning, but I thought it was a great book (although slightly depressing at times... similar to 'Angela's Ashes')

I heard the movie remake was deplorable.

Don't Give up! It's such an amazing book. I did the whole obligatory reading it for school thing and loved it so much I have read two or three times since then.

:o)

It's one of my all time favorites.

It moves slowly, but I think that's part of the feeling the book establishes... it's not the most upbeat story.

Try to stick with it!
