Anyone skipping the receiving line?
Our ceremony is at Flowerfield, and I dont want the recieving line to cut into the cocktail hour. Just want opinions on skipping it...

Re: Anyone skipping the receiving line?
I just dont feel I have time to do it. I dont want people to miss any of the cocktail hour. So, I may disappear after the ceremony with FH, and then people will join the cocktail hour. After that I will walk around and greet people.

Re: Anyone skipping the receiving line?
Christy that sounds reasonable. Will the cocktail hour run straight after the ceremony so there is no break in between?I am skipping it altogether. I actually hate them.

Re: Anyone skipping the receiving line?
I hate them too, I totally planned on not having one, and then at the last minute we did because we felt rude to not acknowledge the several people who came to the church but weren't invited to the reception. I totally wish I had skipped it. One word of advice, if its raining, SKIP IT - or there will be no one left to throw birdseed or petals or whatever..

Re: Anyone skipping the receiving line?
Radiostar it depends on where you would like to do it. You can do it right after the ceremony before people walk outside of the church or at the reception-this one I have never seen before so can't help ya with this one.

Re: Anyone skipping the receiving line?
Definetly not doing one, my wedding is a sunday and the reception is not that long after so I am thinkig alot of people will come to the church, I dont have enough time plus it is so boring to me, I even hate waiting to congratulate as a guest, especially when people I dont know are on the line, i feel so awkward. I plan on using that time to be able to join my cocktail party and greet everyone there while they are relaxed with a drink in hand and good food to eat. but everyone is different, just what I am choosing to do.

Re: Anyone skipping the receiving line?
I don't think we are going to do one, I really don't like them plus I want to go to the StonyBrook Pond for pictures in between the church & reception and don't want to be pressed for time.

Re: Anyone skipping the receiving line?
Christy...I skipped it and I think it was a good idea...we had to go and sign the marriage license and wanted a few moments to ourselves as well...we made a point to see EVERY GUEST at the cocktail hour and TWICE at the reception...yes were went without eating a lot, but to me the guests were more important then the food...and I thoroughly enjoyed the food at the tasting...
to make sure we got everyone we went at the first course and then at dinner...

Re: Anyone skipping the receiving line?
We are also getting married at our hall. We will not have a receiving line. The guests will just go straight to the cocktail hour and we'll be going to all the tables during the reception to say hello : ).

Re: Anyone skipping the receiving line?
We're skipping it as well. I'm hoping I don't offend anybody, but I'm having a very large wedding so I think its reasonable to skip it and greet everyone at the cocktail hour. If I wasn't planning on going to the cocktail hour, I think I would do the receiving line.

Re: Anyone skipping the receiving line?
We got married in early november and we wanted to take pictures outdoors. Due to the time constraint, we skipped the receiving line. I did have one at the end of the night at the hall and made sure to go around the tables to say hello.Welcome New Vendors
