Anyone taking the upcoming Nassau PD test? Or FH or DH's??
Hi,
Just a quick question for everyone:
My FH is taking the Nassau County PD test this Thursday. He is now concerned of the pay cut that will come along if this works out. For the first 6 months, he will be making about $30k less than he is now! Then after 6 months, goes up $10k... But won't be making what he's making now, until about 2 years in. Anyone been in a situation like this? I am working and making a decent amount of money, so we will not end up struggling. He's just not used to NOT having money... Anyone have any advice on how to deal with this? This is worth the pay cut right?

Yup, my FH is taking the NPD and SPD. I am concerned about the pay cut too. In the long run it is better.

So funny ladies, my FH is taking the Nassau exam AS WE SPEAK.
Even with a pay cut it works out better for us in the long run because of the benefits. He is currently working in a small practice (hes an attorney) and has 0 benefits except what he pays out the rear for!!!! its not worth it!!!
I willl tell you tomorrow what he thought of it!

lauren- it will be worth it in the long run he will make more than he does now probably...... is he a police officer now in the city? b/c that would be more I have in common w/ you and I will have to scream!! here at work LOL

LOL Tammy!!! No he isn't. He works in retail right now. His money is good, but he need to GET OUT! He's just going to be used to this initial pay cut, he'll need to really adjust!

OK, FH said it was not what he expected, but it wasn't bad. There were some questions about like 'would your current employer classify you as ... a) hard worker b) average worker..etc...'
then there were some read the following and answer the questions.. like, what forms would this guy need and stuff..
then.. what he did not expect were a TON of questions like 'I get angry sometimes, agree or disagree' ' I like everyone I know, agree or disagree' 'It upsets me when somebody breaks a rule, agree or disagree'
Anyway, over all he said it was ok... now we wait!!!

My Fh took it today too!!!!
He thought the question were totally unexpected too!! He said it was a lot of personal stuff like Mimms said...how do you grade stuff like that?????

Fi is taking the suffolk but not the nassau. He is concerned with nasau's budget and the last hired, first fired deal, he feels there is no job security. FI is an NYPD sergeant, so his paycut will be rather larges eventually, I guess we will deal with it if and when the time comes..

FH is hoping for Suffolk, but will take Nassau if he gets it....

mims, did your FH take the Nassau exam in '95?
Let's just say I'm not counting on Nassau hiring more than 100 people.

No, he didn't ... he was in Law School then LOL This is a change of heard in careers decision for him! But he has his practice to fall back on if he has no luck. We just hope he does... benefits are so much better.

My FH took the test Monday. He is NYPD now and I don't want him to transfer. He is ambivalent about it especially since he is up for a promotion to Sgt very soon. I am in school now so he makes all the money- I don't think we could survive with the pay cut. In all likelyhood I will be the primary money maker (someday) so I just want him to be happy. He loves his job now- so hopefully he won't even get called. Good luck to you jenny and to all your Fh, Dhs.
