For the record, I agree with everything Erica has been saying!

this could be a first inour political discussions

RIGHT?! I forget what we disagreed upon earlier, but I'm totally with you on this stuff.

Hey, I voted for Ralph Nader! Yes, I know I 'threw my vote away', but I was hoping to help him get enough votes to be federally supported next voting season. Oh well. I really thought Gore would have won (oh wait, he DID! But whose brother works in Florida?... hmm... lemme see... )

no no no...you didn't throw away your vote (I voted Nader too) - If they were to get 5% of the popular vote they would be eligible for federal campaign funding!!!

also I love to stick it to the dems and the reps!!! I feel my vote has more weight when I vote for a third party...its says I am not happy with either of you!!!!

btw: I think it was the pledge and cross on the WTC arguments...

Ah yes... being both Christian and an Independent party voter makes for a dynamic internal struggle

Re: Anyone Watch DATELINE with the PRES?

I'd like to add that questioning the President and his foreign policies DOES NOT imply that one does not support the troops. I fully support the men and women risking their lives each day in the name of our freedom, and I am grateful to them for doing something I would never be able to do. At the same time, I believe that this war could have been avoided and that Bush and his administration acted recklessly. I also believe that the Bush administration uses 'patriotism' to fight dissent. If someone questions the President's foreign policy, he/she is labeled as 'unpatriotic'. However, it is our obligation as members of a democracy to speak out for what we believe and to question our leaders as we see fit. Sorry for the soapbox - this issue obviously touches a lot of us.

again...I'll say I didn't vote for Arnold...but he has been actively involved in the community for a long time...

and he was a business man before an actor...so if we look at it that way...it would be silly for Ross Perot to have ever ran for office...

Erica, did you ever get over that darn pointer. I never saw Reagan as an actor, he was the best President, I loved him.

Re: Anyone Watch DATELINE with the PRES?

My $0.02.

Only bad media about Bush makes it to the headlines.

A) he won Florida fair and square.. those folks down there did their little count. Took them a better part of year. I saw the results hidden as a two-paragraph sub-titled section half way through the political mayhem of the times... 'Oh yeah, he won.. but ANYWAY'

B) I love when people say they don't care what Bill Clinton did in his personal life it's his politics they liked.. like.. letting our boys get killed on the USS Cole letting Osama go and basically setting the stage for 9/11? But I can see past all that as politics I mean he's the president he cant DO everything, but those same voices call Bush an baffoon for his speaking skills or confidence issues? I mean this is a man who finally got Saddam who IS a weapon of mass destruction and to whom I am VERY grateful has been in office these days instead of the man who closed military bases all over the country (Clinton). Bush is a politician, granted.. he ticks me off from time to time, but he's more direct. Like him or hate him... at least he's not a slimy bugger like Clinton. Bush didn't whine that he inherited Clinton's mess with the market, he just tried to fix it.

Bush doesnt whine about it.. he gets the job done and frankly it's about time.

I thougth McCain was a good choice as well, but we got Bush over Gore for that Im VERY grateful.

The things that have happened while Bush is president I would NEVER want to stay in politics. He had the Chinese hold our boys, He had 9/11, he had Major Country Weather Disasters, he had the stocks crash nearly, he had planes fall out of the Sky (California and Queens) he's dealt with it all the best he could.

I don't know how he's done it, but if he was such a F-up then why are we doing alright? I like how one democratic presidental canidate used unemployment as a platform against the president and then when the numbers show it's improving more so now that in 33 months which is nearly 3 years, the man says 'well as long as there's unemployment there's a problem' true.. so YOU'RE gonna get rid of ALL unemployment? Is that just Americans or every soul in the US?

So.. the bottom line is the president's job is mostly the most ungrateful position I can imagine. You can never be right, always be wrong and can only sign in laws gone through two other branchs. Thinking of all that a president can and can not do and given the situtations that this country has faced, I think he's done a great job. Could it have been worse who knows? no one.. we have Bush as president (by popular vote) and he's done a better job that most of us are willing to admit.

I think it just ticks people off he hasn't truly fallen on his face, yet and so they bring up the minor things and ingore the bigger picture.

Don't get me started on that carpet bag wench of a woman Madam Clinton who is quick to judge Bush and his administration for wrongs started and moved within her OWN administration like she was some stay at home housewife who cooked brownies during her 8 year stay in the white house instead of a leading force in the politics while she was there. Gimme a break. I want a woman president but I'd rather not have any woman than her!

I can't stand him...I don't think he qualified to be president...a little rich boy that had daddy's power to get him out of things and what he wanted...

We would have been much better off with McCain...IMHO

Erica...I could not agree with you more!!! I cannot stand Bush and please please can we elect a President who knows how to pronounce the word 'NUCLEAR'!

Re: Anyone Watch DATELINE with the PRES?

There are many reasons why I LOATHE Clinton and support Bush (even taking into consideration his apparent downfalls such as public speaking) but there is one in particular that I feel is especially grotesque....

In 1995 we urged the Kurds in Northern Iraq to risk their lives and the lives of their family to rise up against Sadaam promising our support and back-up. We convinced them that we would be there and fight with them and wouldn't leave them stranded to do this alone....

what did we do when the uprising happened? we sat back and watched the kurds get slaughtered by Sadaam and his regime.

The result of this was mass casualties and a VERY swift and heavy vengeance by Sadaam after the uprising.

I can not even do justcie to the horrific details of this uprising or the consequenses for the Iraqi people...it was just awful...

No wonder they didn't trust us to come in and help this time!

I recently read something that I agree with whole heartedly about Clinton's dismantling of the CIA during his administration and the consequences of it:

'Americans need to know that what happened to the CIA didn't happen just by chance. The CIA was systematically destroyed by political correctness, by petty Beltway wars, by careerism, and much more. At a time when terrorist threats were compounding globally, the agency that should have been monitoring them was being scrubbed clean instead. Americans were making too much money to bother. Life was good. The oceans on either side of us were all the protection we needed. Afloat on this sea of self-absorption, the White House and the National Security Council became cathedrals of commerce where the interests of big business outweighed the interests of protecting American citizens at home and abroad. Defanged and dispirited, the CIA went along for the ride. And then on September 11, 2001, the reckoning for such vast carelessness was presented for all the world to see.

Even if no one could have foreseen those attacks, it's still inconceivable that so many people had to die in order to wake us up to the fact that we have sacrificed a national resource for greed and convenience and small-minded politics. I'm incensed, and I think we should all be incensed, that the courageous passengers of United Airlines Flight 93 were the White House's first and only line of defense on September 11-not the CIA or the FBI or the Immigration and Naturalization Service or any other office or agency that we pay our taxes to support.'

wow that is a HARSH statement...letting...

at least he's not a slimy bugger like Clinton. Bush didn't whine that he inherited Clinton's mess with the market, he just tried to fix it.

the late 90's market was one of the bets we have ever had...how is that a mess?

I don't know how he's done it, but if he was such a F-up then why are we doing alright?

we are not...look at the unemployment rate...just on LIW...why did Greenspan lower interest rates SO low...b/c he is trying to jumpstart the economy

no you could never get rid of all...thats unrealistic and it would also cause massive inflation...but it should be below 3%

I have no idea what you mean by this statement...hillary never claimed to be a SAHM...and she is not the first first lady to have control over their husbands politics...see Elenor Roosevelt and Edith Wilson...just to name 2

Why would Clinton let them if he could have stopped it. So not a fair statement to him

I have to agree with Erica on this one, i do not feel like we are doing well at all, Alan Greespan had to lower the ints. Rate so much I was afraid it was going go be zero soon

Re: Anyone Watch DATELINE with the PRES?

The hillary comments:

She has been saying time and time again how bad the Bush administration has handle affairs (too many to count, lets face it its fashionable not to like Bush) and what is funny is half the stuff she goes off on she had a direct hand in when she was first lady. So my question is, how is she can whine now when she was an active participant of what caused the problems? How can she convinently forget she was THERE for 8 years?

As far as Bush winning the votes, he did. I had the article at my desk cause I thought it was ironic how small it was. I then switched jobs. I wish I had it still.

You think it would have been better with Gore? That's your choice. I wish more people who vote. Frankly it was more like the public said 'You both are morons, but here's my vote'.

Mostly Im just in awe that all that he HAS done is ignore and only what he hasnt done in the past or can't fix himself is brought to the front. Im not by any means saying he's god's gift to the USA. He's a politican and a politican's son. Enough said there. Im just saying why not give him SOME credit.

I gave Clinton credit for small stuff when he was in office although I never voted for him. I did however know he'd be re-elected. Sometimes you have to go with the lesser evil. All Im saying is Bush isn't THAT bad! The amount of Bad media is astounding. It was proven he was right about the link with Osama & Saddam (did he think this up himself? no he was told, but no one cares he was right). Personally I feel that rooms filled with single man detonation devicies are weapons of mass destruction. Afterall a plane isn't typically a weapon of mass destruction either but I'll tell ya.. it did a hell of a lot of destruction on 9/11. A WMD doesn't have to be a nuclear war head.. it can be a man with a voice to move people, such as Saddam.

Osama is a slimy bugger.. he's used to hiding out and running. He'll be harder to find. But I'm still glad we did SOMETHING instead of nothing as one lady in my office suggested 'Who cares? It won't change my life' (???)

Enough said.
Bush or antiBush the man deserves credit.
I await the results of the democratic party processes, though frankly nothing has really impressed me.

I'll shut up now.

*applause to all that vote*

Im actually cutting my honeymoon short next year to be home in time to vote!!! LOL!
Wonder if I can absentee vote?

Re: Anyone Watch DATELINE with the PRES?

I'll give you the fact that Bush won the popular vote in Florida...but he did not win the popular vote in the US...thats why Bush is not protrayed well...more than 50% of voters did not vote for him....and his approval rating is barely above 50%....that is not good for any president...

I have thought about the how would have Gore handled everything...and I just can't comment...I have no idea...

Re: Anyone Watch DATELINE with the PRES?

The way I feel about Bush, and about the Dems who willbe running, is 'Can't we do better?' Why isn't there one man or woman who is intelligent, courageous, compassionate?

I want us to do better, to have the courage to elect people who don't feed us headline snippets of cute speech or easy tag lines. And corporations should get the H%*#( out of campaign finance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
