anyone watching the NYC marathon in queens?

Original post by snwb08

do you know what street they run down? my friend will kill me if i don't come watch her. i was thinking of doing breakfast/brunch in astoria then hopping over to LIC to see them. But I have no idea where they run and there is NOTHING on the website - it s*cks

on the same note, anyone have a good breakfast/brunch place in LIC or astoria? TIA

The marathon goes right down Vernon Blvd in LIC. I used to live off Vernon & 47th road and we used to stand on the corner and watch all the time. Also, ther is a GREAT little italian restaurant right on Vernon about 3 blocks from 47th. Grr I can't remember the name! Also, there's another one called Manetta's in LIC oh and Mon Ducati's.

thank you so much!! seriously you're the only one who knows the exact location! now, where to eat... you guys are awesome, i feel like i have TOO many options now

i've def heard of manducatis. my friend raves about it.

You guys are making me hungry!!!!

I love l'incontro.... especially their Risotto

i even love that spread they give you with the bread, ahhh man i eat so much of it

sun-dried tomato and olive. w/the foccacia, it's soooooo good.

i knew it was sun-dried tomato but didnt know what else was in it-thank you...OMG i know that thing is amazing, now i want some hahaha

It is amazing, if I'm not careful I can totally spoil my dinner by eating too much of it.

i know i do the same thing...usually i dont eat bread before my dinner, maybe a very small piece, but with that spread i cant stop and fh will make it worse bc he'll ask for more when we finish it haha

i totally know what you guys are talking about - i am not even a huge fan of olives but i love olive tapenade. that spread is great

thanks for the food recommendations - now i just need to figure out how to get there (i.e., which subway is closest).

Hey snwb08, its your friend from BARONS!!! (hope you got the mantilla, it looked BEAUTIFUL!).
THought I'd share this new one, you can take the subway to Steinway street, its a 2 minute walk from there:

Island :
35-15 36th Street
Long Island City, NY 11106
Main: 718.433.0690

It is quite new and BEAUTIFUL, I felt like I was on vacation in the Caribbean, and the brunch menu is fantastic. It's also closer to LIC, if that's where you need to end up! HTH!!!!

wonder if this is closer to the N or R stop at steinway? does the N even stop at steinway? I don't remember.

maybe i'll just eat all day on sunday. start in LIC, then end up in astoria. won't that be great - me stuffing my face after watching my friends run 26.2 miles.

yeah my dad makes fun of me, what kind of italian doesn't like olives blah blah blah.
have you ever been to the spotted pig in the village? if you EVER go get the martini - it's crazy with purple kalamata olives (its a purple martini) but it's so good. totally converted me to the kalamata. and it's not sweet it's just a normal martini. kicked ***.

right, the bridgeview wedding! hope it's fun.

No, the N doesn't stop at Steinway. But the N/W stops at 36th Avenue, then you would just walk up to 36th St. and over toward 35th Ave. Or, you could take the R to Steinway and get out at the stairwell on 34th Avenue and then walk down to 36th St. and over toward 35th Avenue. Same distance either way I guess so whatever train is closer to you to begin with.

no the n doesnt stop at steinway...well its right in between the N and the R lol so up to you either or will work...actually the R is a block closer lol...steinway takes the place of 39th street to give you a better idea...and the N the stop would be on 31st street and 36th avenue

its ok...its easy to remember bc the R doesnt have many stops in astoria infacts its just Steinway street, theres another one on 46th street by bryant HS but dont even consider that, so next time just know that the R is just for steinway.

I hate to be a downer, but I always hate this marathon because it's always on my birthday Sunday and getting in and out of New York is going to be such a pain. I b*tch about it every year. I wish they'd move it to a different weekend. Ha ha!

i wish their was an easier way to get to the N from the R though. because even if i get off at Steinway on the R i'm still pretty far from Ditmars right? I know it better coming from the city, not from forest hills.

yeah from steinway ditmars isn't the shortest walk, you can take a cab if you want. Wait will you be coming from the city? if you are then get off at lexington and take the N from there, in the city the N and R train run on the same line so when you get off the R train you simply wait in the area for the N train. From forest hills it can be a little annoying to get to the N, you can transfer at roosevelt to the 7 and then take that to queensborough plaza and then transfer to the N from there, but honestly i would do the same thing as above even from forest hills, take it to lexington and transfer there for the N
