Anyone work in HR? Interview question.

Anyone work in HR? Interview question.

So I went on a job interview for a social work position that I really want last Monday. I thought it went pretty well- met with the Program Supervisor and then she had me meet with the Executive Director. She asked me for references but did say they a bunch more people they were interviewing during the week. I said ok and thanked her for her time. I went home and sent both of them a thank you email (which I do after every interview). I think followed up this morning just to check in - very short email...just stating that I was still interested in the position and wanted to know if a decision had been made yet. She wrote back 'a decision has not been made yet and I will be hearing from them later in the week.' I know I shouldnt read into it but I always do haha....I am just used to getting jobs pretty quickly when an interview goes well so I dont have the best feeling but am trying to keep positive. Just from an HR perspective...dont employers usually know who they are going to hire if they are done with the interviews? Thanks.

I'm not in HR but it is normal to say they are continuing to interview and will get back to you. They will definitely be in touch whether you get the job or not. Try not to read into it too much. You definitely did the right thing by writing a thank you email and letting them know you are very interested. I know most places now require multiple interviews too. Sit tight and good luck

They could have a first choice and want to contact them first to see if they accept and then chose their runner up...OR maybe the person who does the hiring is away! It sucks waiting it out but hopefully it will be worth it for you! Good Luck!

I know at my job that everything has to get approved by 5 people before it moves forward. Maybe they're waiting on someone's approval, or maybe they're waiting for the holidays to be over to move forward.

sometimes they have to check references and/or do background checks before an offer can be made. They might not even be done interviewing yet! I think it's fine that you followed up, but don't worry, these things take time! (unfortunately) But I totally know how you feel!!

I work in HR... Like the above poster said, they may still have candidates on the schedule that they still need to meet with. I think it's good that you sent the Thank You email (I always do this as well) and followed up since it shows you're interested but I would wait for them to get back to you now (you don't want to look too eager). Another thing to keep in mind is considering the time of year, a lot of people are out on PTO (including hiring managers, etc)... so things tend to move slower because of people being out.

Background/Reference checks are usually not done until an offer is accepted (at least that's how my past 2 companies have done it).

Good luck!
