Anyone writing their own vows or have been to a ceremony where someone did...

Original post by Jenn04

I am considering doing this so I can really personalize our ceremony. I normally dont like public speaking but might be able to....I will have notes up with me....but dont want to sound like I am reading from paper!

Hmmmm just wanted to see what you thought if you've seen it done.

There is something to be said for writing your own vows, it is not for everybody but we found ourselves gravitating away from the traditional as it just didn't feel right for 'US'.
After all our whole wedding was not traditional really.
My DH did not want us to make it too long or sappy - we came up w/the vows actually the night before b/c we had such a hard time w/it!
The following day I had our wedding planner hand it to our Officiant and he recited it back to us so we would read them out loud in case we messed up or forgot what we wrote

My hand goes out to all the Brides that indeed remembered. You also probably didn't write them the night bfr.

I did not cry nor him during them - I thought I would FOR SURE! After we got introduced as Husband and wife for our first Dance I took a deep breath & it al finallyl hit me !
My DH laughed at me and gave me his white pocked square that got kinda wreaked!

Brides wear Waterproof Mascara! Just in case.

Best to you Jenn - and good luck in making those Vows !

I think we are going to write our own vows as well...I think it is totally fine if you read from paper. I know I will be too nervous to remember anything anyways! I think anything that you write and make your own would be special. I go back and forth between writing them together and writing them individually and surprising each other, not sure what we will end up doing.

i had never thought of writing them together, but i think that it would be really special to hear what he's thinking for the first time on our wedding day. just hope that he does something sweet and not silly!

I've been to a couple of weddings where brides have written their own vows.

Just write a love letter to your FH and then it won't sound like you are reading from paper!

oh Girls I almost forgot...

We did do this... It was very neat.
I had our Officiant ask us one question to both my DH and I in private.

That question was ,'What made us fall in love with each other ?'

The Officiant revealed on our day what both my DH and I shared with himin private about one another in front of everyone , and I was so touched hearing what he said and vise versa. It definitly was a crowd pleaser!
