apartment hunting
I am not getting married for a year. I guess it is too early to start apartment hunting now, but I need advice as to when I should start. Also, any suggestions on where to find a nice apartment or condo in suffolk would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone, you are always very helpful!

There is a brand new luxury condo/townhouse community in Brookhaven. It is called the Alexan, you can check out there web site at www.alexanapts.com We are going to rent here if we don't find a house. They are very nice condos, and the gated community is a plus! Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions. Continued success to all...

apartment hunting
When my FI and I were looking for an apartment it took us a long time to find a nice one. The ones that we looked at were so overpriced and were not worth the money they were asking. It seemed like everytime we called for one that we found in the paper they would tell us it was already rented even though it was just lidted in the paper. Well my point is I would definately start looking at least 5 months before you are ready to move in.

Since good deal in real estate is hard to find these days, I agree w/ Colleen about looking 5-6 months ahead of time. Also keep in mind that if you find a place that's right, you will need to be ready w/ the 1 month deposit and 1st month rent, and may need to be ready to move in. Good luck!

My FI and I are on a waiting list for a apartment complex in Suffolk around the Holbrook area. Just a word of advice, if you are interested in living a complex, you may want to check to see if there is a waiting list. My Fi and I put our names on the list in Nov for an apartment in May. Good luck with your search.

My fiance and I looked for an apartment last June and moved into Pine Hills South in Moriches last August... we LOVE it!! I mean if you're looking for a condo/house, this isn't for you, but everyone who sees our apartment loves it! They can't believe how big it is! We just have one bedroom, one bath (which is more than enough for us), there are SO many closets! The kitchen is HUGE! It's really been the best decision. They are fairly reasonable considering all maintenance is free, there are three tennis courts, three pools, a gym, pool tables, etc. I would definitely check it out if you are looking for an apartment! In fact I know the apartment above ours has been free since Dec. We live in 74 which I think is one of the best! :) Let me know if you have any questions about the place!

I definitely aggree with Jackie. Most nice places have waiting lists so I would start looking asap. Sometimes they won't put you on the list too soon but it is worth a shot. If you give them the month you want to move in (as you get closer to the date) they might have some availability information for you. I am not sure what you are looking to spend but there is a really nice condo complex in Sayville called Saddlerock. There's also a brand new Fairfield condo complex in Port Jefferson that is beautiful but a little expensive. Good luck!

It is probably never too early to start looking in the newspaper (Newsday) or online to get an idea of what apts or condo's cost with the ammenities you are looking for. Also, don't underestimate friends and family - you never know just who might know someone who is selling a place that could be just what you are looking for. Best of luck!

I think Saddlerock is for retired/older people only
if it is the place next to the golf range or the country club, it is for older people. We already checked it out.

My FH and I have been living in qns together for 3 years, and I work in Manhattan. I grew up in Nassau county, and I would love to live out where you are. But, just wondering, what you and your FH do for work out there (or do you commute west). I know this may sound ignorant, but I just started a new job and had a bad couple of days commuting etc., and can't help but think what I can do to move out of here!!

The Saddlerock I looked at is not for old people - My future sister-in-law and her husband lived there for a while. It is a complex right on Sunrise Highway in Sayville.

The last time I was at Saddle Rock it was not 55 and over. If is on sunrise highway in Sayville. They have condos they built in Riverhead that is 55 and over, but the apartments in Sayville are not 55 and over unless they changed it recently.

My Fi and I are on the waiting list for Saddlerock and as far as I know, it is not for retired people. It's right off of Sunrise. My Fi and I moved from Nassau to Suffolk and I commute to Manhattan and the Ronkonkoma is long. It definitely takes time to get used to.

I actually grew up in Southampton and my fiance in East Hampton, so I travel from Moriches to Southampton and he goes to Wainscott... so I travel about a half hour east... But it's definitely in a central location where you could go east or west without a problem.Welcome New Vendors
