Re: Apartment Hunting
I know a lot of people use Craigslist to look for apartments for rent ... I think MLSLI.com also has a rental section. Sorry, I never rented before so I am not sure! I moved from my childhood home into the home that DH and I bought.

Re: Apartment Hunting
you can also check popular apartment complexes as well
home properties
fairfield
avalon
are all popular complexes
are you looking in long island?
craigslist is a good place to start
i would avoid realtors because you will have to pay a broker fee...and you will prob have no problem finding one on your own

Re: Apartment Hunting
we used a real estate agent. I found it easier to use them than do the entire search ourselves. They look for the apartments and you just go and look at them.

Re: Apartment Hunting
When I rented, I found mine on craigs list... After seeing like 20, you'll find that diamond in the rough so dont give up hope!!!! I found that apts on CL tended to look nice in pics and then was horrendous in person... Its amazing how pics can be so deceiving so dont get your hopes up too much before you visit the place in person

Re: Apartment Hunting
We originally searched through Craigslist but were unable to find anything we liked,. Eventually we just went to Tscherne Realtors (it's in our neighborhood) and the first apartment they should us was the one we took. Had to pay a broker's fee of course but it was totally worth it because we love our apartment.

Re: Apartment Hunting
weve been looking on craigslist- a lot of realtors post on there
and also, just going on real estate websites and narrowing the search down to meet our criteria.

Re: Apartment Hunting
we're using mlsli right now. we've had some luck, and some that were a joke. FH actually found a gorgeous apt in islip that he took a peek at last week and we're going back friday. if it's good, we're in next month! :)

Re: Apartment Hunting
I used CL for my first apartment, then when I moved in with FH, we got an apartment through word of mouth. If you have a specific area you are interested in, go to local supermarkets, they sometimes post available apartments on the boards by the exit doors.

Re: Apartment Hunting
it doesnt hurt u to use a real estate agent, it just costs the person listing the apartment.......let them do the work, tell them what u want
i used to be an agent so we have a website thats so easy to use just type the info and well find what ur looking for

Re: Apartment Hunting
as long as its not in manhattan -craigslist! do no fee ones first. there is usually a great selection, thats what ive used to get all of my apartments except for the city. if youre looking in manhattan, get a broker. good luck!
