FH had it done & also we have it on our home owners insurance. VERY IMPORTANT TO INSURE IT. !

I paid only because only because when I put the insurance I made him pay up. But the appraisal was not much it was ok. But I think they should be responsible for the appraisal and insurance.

Well my ring is from bluenile. It did come with an appraisal that is fine with me. Is it ok to just go ahead with the appraisal taht came with it or get another one?

FH paid but I dont think that really matters, I would have paid also, he did put out a lot of money for the ring.
my FMIL paid for appraisal and first year of insurance for us...so nice of her!

The jeweler gave us the appraisal with the ring, ask your jewler about that, but do get it insured. It's not that expensive.

He got it appraised at the jeweler and gave me the appraisal. Then I took it to our Insurance Company and added it to our renters Insurance. I paid the fee to add it on to our policy. So it was a fair balance!

you're better off going to an actual appraiser, the jeweler you bought it from will always appraise it for a much higher amount to make it seem like theyre giving you a deal.
With the appraiser, they have no idea what your FH paid for it -- I went to the appraiser with all my paperwork and I sat there while he was telling me what he thought my ring was (color, clarity, etc) -- he got every single thing exactly the same as my GIA report.
He appraised it for about $1500 less than the jeweler appraised it for and FH paid less than that anyway, so he got a good deal.
does that make sense?
