Are any of you not going to Aruba for your honeymoon b/c

Are any of you not going to Aruba for your honeymoon b/c

of the Natalee Holloway disapearance?

I saw a post recently on aol and it said that Aruba's tourism has declined a lot since 10 months ago.

I would not let that stop me from going there.. I mean people get kidknapped and all that horrible stuff here in NY, and lots of people still visit here.

I think it's all about common sense. I feel really bad with whatever happened to her but I don't think it would stop me from going to Aruba or thinking it's not safe now..

Not going to Aruba had nothing to do with Natalee Holloway. People disappear in NY all the time and I am not moving away am I?

yea that's what I said.. so why is the media making it such a big deal.. or I hear other people saying things like it's not safe now.. yada yada.. it's ignorant talk right?

I'm planning on going there for my HM... in Dec.

I went in November, AND bought a timeshare there! We love Aruba, it's a very safe island and it's getting a bad rap for 1 incident.....

We just came back from Aruba and I thought that Aruba was VERY safe. Any town has kidnapping and bad things that go on, but she should not have even been at Carlos n Charlies in the first place. It's the worst bar ever, I remember walking past it and we got offered about 10 different drugs... Aruba is great though!

I am currently booking at Aruba and went to a travel agent last weekend..as soon as this girl there (not an agent) heard I was going to Aruba she's like OH MY DAD WOULD BE SO PISSED and a whole thing about how he's boycotting.

funnily enough when i told my dad where we booked our HM he was like 'OMG, you're gonna go to aruba? what if you get kidnapped like that girl???' i was like 'well the difference is that i will be with my new DH every waking minute unlike that poor girl who was out drinking with strange men every night'. I feel completely safe. No isolated incident is going to keep me from my long needed vacation!

i was hoping that this incident would help bring down the cost of our HM. Everytime we tell someone we are going to Aruba they respond 'Arent you scared because of the whole Natalie Holloway incident'. My response is always, 'as long as I dont go pick up any strange sketchy men who slip me roofies at a bar, I should be ok.' Aruba is not a scary unsafe place by any means. Things like that happen to girls in the states every day. Dont be dumb and take drinks from random strangers and you should be fine.

since i have booked my HM for aruba and i tell people about it, i always get the response of- 'dont let happen to you what happened to that girl.'

it is so annoying when i hear that b/c that can happen in any city.

We went there for our HM this yaer when our original choice, Cancun, got washed away. I felt perfectly safe except in the 'town'... My friend went to Secrets in Punta Cana and loved it, but said that she literally could not leave the resort and there were armed guards at the resort.

Also, right after this incident two tourists in St. Thomas were murdered, and it got no press whatsoever.

I went to Aruba last year and its a pretty safe island..I also been to Carlos and Charlies and had a blast but I went with my friends and left with my friends, I don't understand why people split up.

DH and I went to Aruba in Jan. on our HM and would go back in a heartbeat! It was so safe and the people were really nice. We got so many 'Oh my goodness' reactions when we told people where we were going. However, Aruba is generally a really safe island.

This is how it should be. Everyone stays together.

I think the decrease in tourism has a lot more to do with the government practices in the treatment of the Holloway case, more over than the actual disappearance of Natalie Holloway.

That being said, Aruba is rated top as one of the safestest places in the world. We're not going there on our HM, but it was definitely a close second.

I don't think it's as much being 'scared' of going to Aruba for fear of the same thing happening to any of us as much as 'boycotting' Aruba for the alleged coverup of that whole situations, and the seemingly lack of cooperation from the government in Aruba. I think that's why their tourism #'s went down since the incident, which I can understand.

Someone mentioned that we're not moving out of NY out of fear even though people get killed so often here, which is a good point. But, take the case of that poor girl from Boston who was recently killed... New York did everything in its power to get to the bottom of it and find who did it, which they did. I think if the officials in Aruba acted the way the NY police department acted in solving the case (or at least trying to), there wouldn't be any talk of a boycott of Aruba.

I personally didn't consider Aruba because of the Natalie Holloway situation... not out of fear of that happening to me, but because of the boycott.

HTH! (sorry I rambled a bit)

My dad's cousin was murdered in Aruba 8 years ago. She was mugged and shot by two teenagers. They were brought to trial but set free because of their age. That is why I will never go to Aruba.
