Are any of you not going to Aruba for your honeymoon b/c
Original post by BellaEyes
of the Natalee Holloway disapearance?
I saw a post recently on aol and it said that Aruba's tourism has declined a lot since 10 months ago.
I would not let that stop me from going there.. I mean people get kidknapped and all that horrible stuff here in NY, and lots of people still visit here.
I think it's all about common sense. I feel really bad with whatever happened to her but I don't think it would stop me from going to Aruba or thinking it's not safe now..

Whereever you ladies go, for whatever reason, please be careful and be safe. A lot of time on vacation, people forget that they are in a foreign country, often with a lot of poverty. If you go to a place where you are supposed to stay at the resort, please do so, even if it gets boring, excpet on an organized trip. If you go to a place like Aruba or Hawaii where you can go out, etc., be careful where you go, and take cabs home if required, its worth the extra money.

My dad's cousin was murdered in Aruba 8 years ago. She was mugged and shot by two teenagers. They were brought to trial but set free because of their age. That is why I will never go to Aruba.
I am so sorry to hear that! Did she live there or was she visiting?

we're not going there, but not because of natalee holloway. I wouldn't have any issue going there, the thought wouldn't cross my mind. I feel terrible about what happened to her, but she was a teenager who went off with a strange guy. I wouldn't be doing that. I know its a very safe place.

I think some people aren't going because they are kind of boycotting the government there because of how they handled the case...not because they think they are going to get kidnapped. I saw a Dr. Phil episode where he was asking people to stop going there so they realize that they can't treat their visitors like that. With that said, we aren't going..but only because I have already been there and want to go somewhere new!

FH and I decided to not look there based on comments that faculty I work with came back and shared with me during our honeymoon planning. Many of the dentists I work with have time shares down there for their families and they said the atmosphere down there has changed dramatically since the American girl disappearance. They stated that things were running smoothly, but the charisma the island used to have is missing due to the disappearance and they wouldn't recommend it as a HM place for FH and I. This is why we looked elsewhere.

I agree it kidnappings happen everywhere, so no I would not boycott the country... HOWEVER as with most places, it is NOT as safe as we may think it is. They have some interesting laws... I suggest anyone traveling outside of the US knows and udnerstands their laws before doing so.

Thanks, she was visiting. She was 46 at the time and a very well-traveled woman. She was on a trip with friends and was walking from their hotel to meet her friends for dinner. My Aunt had a very hard time, getting answers, recovering her body to take home - it was a very bad time for them. Then when they found the people that did it, there was no consequences which was like a slap in the face.
