Anyone know? I'm thinking about getting married in the city. I hope they're not! I can't afford any more!

Re: Are Churches in NYC more expensive???
Depends where you want to get married....I looked at the Chapel at Columbia University and it was on the pricey side. I have a friend getting married in a church on the east side and she is not paying all that much for it. Depends on the church too.

Re: Are Churches in NYC more expensive???
Generally, yes. But not in all cases.
The church I was married in was about on par with what other churches charge in the outer bouroughs. But a few blocks away, a church wanted 2x that.

Re: Are Churches in NYC more expensive???
Thanks for your responses. I have some more questions for you:
Did you Price Shop for your church? Can you do that? When you call do they tell you how much they cost? (It just seems so wrong to be talking about finding a church like this ) I was originally going to get married at my parish on LI, but if I want to get married in NYC I need to just pick a church. Is this difficult - do they give you a problem about getting married there if it's not your parish or are they used to it and just say ok as long as you pay their fee?

Re: Are Churches in NYC more expensive???
Every church is different. Some want you to be in their parish or they wont marry you, some will allow you to marry there but will charge extra and some dont care either way. Just like everywhere, each church is managed differently so you really have to call around. Start with your favorite churchs and work from there.
We did not price shop for a church but Im sure you could if you wanted. We chose the church based on the location and willingness of the priest to work with us. But finding a church is not easy..many of them are really PITA to deal with!
Where in NYC are you looking?

Re: Are Churches in NYC more expensive???
I did't church price shop, but am also getting married in the city.. They all vary in price and it really also depends on whether or not you're in the parish. do you know of anyone who lives in NYC? or near a church you have in mind?

Re: Are Churches in NYC more expensive???
I'm looking for a church on the upper east side. My mom used to live on the ues, but no one lives around there (anymore) and hasn't for a long time. I'm going to look into the church where my mother used to go (I forget the name right now) but if it's booked already or just way too much $$$ I want to know what my options are.

Re: Are Churches in NYC more expensive???
I am getting married at a church on the upper east side. It is my parish church so I'm sure there is a difference when you are members. I am meeting with the priest next week and we will discuss fees then. I think the range is $500 to $1000. I can confirm once I get the information from him.
