For those of you going to St.Lucia on your honeymoon, read this!
I was there a few weeks ago and was terrified on their roads. They are narrow and you are going up and down mountains whenever you are in the shuttle.....their aren't any rails stopping you from falling down the cliffs!
Just so you all know, Sandals Grande is an hour and a half away from the airport and the others are just under that. There are shuttle vans that take you back and forth from each of the resorts. Other than that, DO NOT take the St. Lucian public taxis! Some of the drivers aren't even licensed and can be so dangerous to be with.
On our third night there another couple told us that a couple from Sandals Regency took a public taxi to go through the town and it FLIPPED down the mountainside and landed on the roof of a house! Thankfully the couple was ok and had broken bones and stuff, but they survived.
They tell you on the resorts to stick with their drivers.....believe them and stay safe!

LOL We went to the other two resorts via their shuttle, but never explored the town....too poverty-stricken and dangerous!

we wouldnt even go to the other resorts which frankly suucced because there werent many places to eat, but we founf it too annoying to travel to the other ones.

we never left the resort while we were there. we meant to check out the other sandals but never got around to it. we stayed at the grande the whole time.
also, we flew into the other airport ... we changed planes in san juan. the drive was only about 20 minutes.
i do agree, they are all crazy drivers over there!

I saw that other airport.....we didn't want to transfer, so stuck with the main one.

I felt so sick after being in the taxi from the Regency to the Rain Forest. I never the resort again b/c of that. I actually asked the butler to get us an private car to the airport and he did. It was better but the roads are awful. ![]()

ETA: While I was there I did see a girl on crutches and another guy on crutches. I heard the girl was in a car accident. They are nuts over there. They just laugh about it too (about their driving).

I'm staying there in Feb. and just wanted to know how's the drive from the international airport to the Grande? Is it a bad drive on their shuttle too?

Its over an hour in a small van (their shuttle service). Take motion sickness pills if you have to. Not gonna sugar coat it--its awful!! Sorry. The roads are very windy (mountainous) and they drive like maniacs.

Thats up to you. i think its a small plane from san juan to st. lucia. I dont like planes and sure wont fly in a small one. I didnt want to risk a delay if we had a stopover.
You can get a helicopter (instead of the taxi) for a large fee. I'm sure the its beautiful.

When we were there, another couple mentioned it being around $200. Not 100% sure though.

We are going and taking the helicopter if another couples does it. Otherwise we have to pay for 4 people.
