Are there any older or second time brides here?

Original post by maggie1234

Just wondering if there were any brides ages 30+ here. Or anyone who is getting married for the second time?

I'll be almost 34 and FH will be 37.

Re: Are there any older or second time brides here?

My DH and I are in our early 50's.

First wedding for both of us.

We had a small wedding (70 -75 guests)..just close family and friends.

We had MOH and BM only...best friends from college.

No garter toss...

Other than my niece (9 years old) and my nephew (7 years old)...and a few of my DH's co-workers who are in their late 20's...guests were our age or older.

We planned the wedding the way that we wanted it....we paid for all of it.

We totally enjoyed our wedding...and so did our guests.

Re: Are there any older or second time brides here?

I am so happy to see that I am not the only older bride here. I posted the question because I saw an age poll on another thread and noticed that everyone that had answered were all in their early 20s. This is my second wedding and FH's first. He really wants a big, old-fashioned wedding, so that is what we are going to do. If it were up to me, I'd do something much simpler. We won't be doing the garter toss, bouquet toss, or parent dances. Also, I want our wedding favors to be different as well. For instance, I think all the wine stoppers, salt shakers, etc. are cute, but honestly, we've collected more than our fair share over the years. Just not sure what direction to go in.

Since it is my second wedding (my first was ten yrs ago), I feel a little funny about wearing a traditional wedding gown. It's ivory, but I know a few members of my family will still snicker....but oh well.

Was just wondering what other things I should take into consideration.

Have you thought about doing wine as a favor? IMO it's very grown up and not too cutesy, and a favor everyone (over 21 ..ok realistically, anyone who's 16) can enjoy. Ours is all dorked-out with personalization which obv isn't the look you'd want, but I've seen it really tastefully done on here.

Or maybe donations if that's your thing?

i'm 29 and FH is 30...older in comparison to most of the girls on the boards, but young still in spirit!

I am with you. I will be close to 30 and FH will be close to 31 when we are married. It is not older but I guess most people on this board are younger. I consider myself a first time young bride. Although, most of my friends did get married already and I am among the last. It is fine - I guess other people (BMs, freinds) aren't as excited as they were with our frends who got married closer to 24 or 25 but for me it is still a huge deal and it will be even better because I can afford most things I think up!

I am 30 now, and will be 32 when we get married. My first, and FH second marriage. We have been dating for over 4 years, and we both waited and knew this is what we wanted. I am more in love with FH than ever. We are paying for the wedding ourselves, and we are doing what we can afford, yes it is our wedding day, but we also know that it is one day, and we have to make sure we have enough money for all of the tomorrow's. Being together and married is what is important.

Mid twenties,definitely..yeah. I could be wrong and didn't mean to offend anyone I just thought these days it was ,more 25-32 year old getting married and less19-22. Of course it doesn't matter WHAT age you are, when you're ready, you're ready and for those of you that are lucky enough to find your 'lobster' when you're younger-bravo!!! You get to spend that many more years together!

As for me and most of my friends, it took us longer to get there and some are over 30 and not even in relationships but everyone takes their own path...

I was just surprised to see a 29 or 30 year old referring to themselves as an 'old' bride. If that's old, then I'm ancient at 33!! Ha ha...but then again FH is 28 so maybe if I average our ages together we're both 30????

Both FH and I will be 42 - first for each of us - and we'll be together 20 years that month.

I was 40 and my husband 45 my first his second.
We had a 35 people wedding on Lake Las Vegas in Vegas with a dinner party - I would not do anything different I was glad we went to Vegas it was a fun trip.

I wouldn't classify myself as an 'older bride' - I am 32 and my FH is 34. It is our first (and only) wedding / marriage.

I will be 35, FH 37.

We definately have more money than we did a few years ago, so our wedding will be more extravagant than it would have been if we were married in our 20s.

Not doing the first dance (not my thing, will dance with fh, just without the audience), garter/bouquet toss, cake cutting, father/daughter dance (i will dance with my dad, but again, no audience), no shower, no wedding favors, etc. Honestly, I don't think I would have done any of these things in my 20s either....
