This has become a hot topic in my family. Every wedding I have been in I have been asked to buy my own shoes. And I LOVE shoes so I did this without hesitation or question. My sister went through so much torture with 2 of her bridesmaids (one of which is my cousin - also one of MY bridesmaids) that she eventually gave up and let them buy whatever they wanted out of sheer frustration.
I really would not care except that I want the girls to wear tea-length dresses. Am I out of line to ask them to all buy the same shoe?
What is everyone doing?

I don't think you are out of line at all! Any wedding I've been in I've had to buy shoes (I didn't mind either). Especially if they are going to be in tea length dresses, the shoe will be more obvious. I don't know what to tell you about the difficult ones. As long as it is reasonably priced, and reasonably comfortable, I don't think they have a beef. Just be firm (but nice) that that is the shoe they are to wear, and leave no room for arguements.

I am letting my girls pick out there own shoes, but they are wearing long dresses. Maybe you could give them some options and let them agree on the same pair.

IMO- being in many wedding and being married myself.. let them pic their own shoes. everyone has their own taste. My one friend did say that we had to wear closed toe. you can make some guidelines and make sure that are dyed together( my SIl has been in two weddingsrecently and EVERY girl got their shoes dyed at a different place and they were all different colors)...remember everyone is comfortable in different shoes...

I would just ask that they all be dyed the same color. Not everyone might be comfortable in the same shoes.

my bridesmaids are all wearing tea-length dresses, so the shoes will definitely be showing. i asked that they all buy the same shoes, which helped them out a lot because none of them knew what shoes to buy.....but i made sure they were all comfortable in the shoes and that the shoes were not too much money.......i tried to be as reasonable as possible!

Mine are weraing tea length dresses. I am letting them pick out their won shoes but they have to be similar styles... for example, all open toed and the same color.

I am having the same problem! My sister (MOH) is being a real pain about buying shoes and wants to wear silver strappy sandals instead. This is fine for her b/c she already has a pair, but none of the other girls do, so it's probably no big deal if they buy silver or a dyeable pair. Personally, I want them to wear closed toe (I don't care if they all pick different styles) and have them dyed. I would even agree to open toe as long as they are all dyed together. My sister has been so easy going with everything that I feel like I am being unreasonable with her. Hearing that you have the same problem and seeing everyone's responses, I am thinking that I am not so unreasonable after all!

I picked the shoes for my girls. Some had a problem, but they got over it.
I have had my shoes picked for me in all the weddings I have taken part in and it really wasn't a problem.

i would like them to wear a brown close toed show to match the dress...if they have such a shoe, great, if they have to go out and get one...fine as well. i want them to be comfortable and wear the shoes again, so the style is up to them!

I totally agree with you. Especially since they are in tea length dresses, IMO they should all be wearing the same shoe or it will look sloppy. My advice is that you pick two shoes (any more and you'll probably have too much debate) and have them choose between those two... majority rules. I've also been in many weddings and everytime I was told what shoes to buy or went shopping and helped pick out the shoes that everyone agreed on and wore. I never had a problem with it.

How many girls to you have?I was 1 of 5 anf the MOB picked out the sheos for us & they were torture for me b/c i have wide feet. IF you jsut have 2 or 3 you coudl take thema ll to the store together. I had decdied that they coudl get wahtever they wanted unless the dresses were tea length. I think i would prefer they mtach if they were showing, but similar is probably close enough.

No. We all went to the same store together and I told them as long its all the same style (a dyeable sandel) and so they could get whatever heel is comfortable for them.

I am going to tell them just make sure they are the same color - they are all over the state so I cant say you have to get such and such a shoe. But I may point them in the general direction of Payless!
