Are you asking your BMs to all buy the same shoe?

Original post by LauraPete

This has become a hot topic in my family. Every wedding I have been in I have been asked to buy my own shoes. And I LOVE shoes so I did this without hesitation or question. My sister went through so much torture with 2 of her bridesmaids (one of which is my cousin - also one of MY bridesmaids) that she eventually gave up and let them buy whatever they wanted out of sheer frustration.

I really would not care except that I want the girls to wear tea-length dresses. Am I out of line to ask them to all buy the same shoe?

What is everyone doing?

I'm letting them get their own shoes, as long as they are dyed to match the dresses, which are long. If they were wearing tea length dresses, I would want them in the same shoe.

I CANT!! hehe
no way Im 'stepping' into that mess

i have a 19 year old hip and 'cool' BM (Jim's sister)

i have a 14 year old shy but fiesty BM (my adopted sister)

i have a 29 year old mother with a very uhmm odd sense of style and devout Christian who would never be risky MOH (my best friend)

NO WAY Im gonna try to those three happy. Im just glad I got them all to agree on the dress!!! counting my blessings on this.

The only thing I ask is that the dress falls to the floor. No matter what shoe they wear the dress is to be altered to just barely not touching the floor

They are buying any kind of shoe that they want as long as they can have them dyed the color of the dress.

I told them they could wear different styles of silver sandals so they could wear them again. I just asked that they decide on similar fabric, not one in satin silver and the other in glitter silver

call me Bridezilla but I was up front about my expectations from the start. They are wearing the same shoe and getting them dyed at the same place. I will be considerate and make sure they are comfortable and not very expensive but I want consistent color, style and heel heights.

I will probably ask them to get similar shoe styles but they dont have to be exact.

When they were going to order tea length dresses, I was going to ask that they all wear closed toe shoes - they didn't have to be the same b/c they all have different size/type feet.

Now that they're wearing long dresses, I don't care what type of shoe they wear - so long as they're comfortable.

I will allow them to pick their own shoes; however, my only preference is that the shoe they choose should be open toe.

My girls dresses are gowns so my only requirement was that they be the same material and color (i.e., all satin dyeables) but they could each pick the shoe. If I were doing tea-length I would make them all wear the same shoe because it will be seen. But I like everything to match almost all the time - that's why I bought their jewelry for them.

I put my MOH in charge of this, so I wouldn't have to deal with it. As a group they agreed on black open toe shoes(BM dresses are red) and height and style. Shoes, to me, is just one of those things I am surely not going to stress over. ALL i ask of them is no watches!!

I tmust be bridezilla b/c I want them to wear the same shoes!! I had to do it many times so why can't they just s*ck it up? I just think it goes with the territory, no?

Part of the problem is that my sister got so fed up during her wedding process that she eventually 'let' my cousin get her own pair. Well now she set the precedent and my cousin is already started the whining when i made it clear that my intention was to have everyone wear the same. I think if I am going to have problems with shoes, then maybe I should bag the tea-length dress idea altogether....? People say tea-length is too informal for the Carlyle anyway......

Waaa. Thoughts?

I think that the BMs should all wear the same shoes if the dresses are tea length. I have seen pictures where they all have different shoes and it can look very sloppy. In the pictures I have seen some of the girls were wearing shoes that you would wear shopping, not to a wedding IMO If you leave it open ended, you don't know what you will get.

If the dress is floor length, I don't think that it matters much.

I don't care about the style shoe that they wear, just that they are dyed the same color.

Same here. As long as they have the same color, I don't care. Maybe giving them guidelines would help.

I'm letting them pick out their own shoes. They each like different heels. I'm just asking for dyable shoes.

I just never got the reason why they must all wear the same shoes and be carbon copies each other? I didn't really think anyone did that anymore at least not with shoes and hair. I was only in one bridal party (i have been in a bunch) that did that and that was over 6 years ago.

I think guidelines are ok but the same exact shoes is kind of annoying. Not everyone is comfortable in the same type of shoe and it is hard to find a common ground. But that's my opinion.

Mine are wearing the same color, but different shoes. One wanted very high ones so she wouldn't have to get the dress shortened, and others said they couldn't walk in the Jimmy Choo shoes she will be wearing. It also allows them to spend as much $ as they want to.

Same issue going on in my family. My mom thinks they should all where the same shoe because my dresses are tea length. However, my BM are all over the country and I feel like that is unfair, so I sent them a picture of a show I liked and asked them to find something similiar and told them the color. In the meantime, I will keep an eye out and let them know if I see something in the stores - so if they want I can check them out.

As long as they arent wearing canvas sneakers - I am flexible ... its just their feet!

I dont think so ... tea length can be very nice if thats the look you are going for. i LOVE tea length dresses and i think it would look fine.

I did not make them all buy the saems hoe, but I did give them strict guidelines of what they could wear........unfortunately, one girl did not listen & it looked really stupid ( she wore open toed shoes in January, and the dresses did not look good with open toed shoes)

I think it does depend on the style of the dress, though. My girls wore floor length gowns, so shoes were barely noticable..... I may have chosen a shoe for them if the dresses were shorter.

I don't like the uniform look. It looks costume-y to me, IMHO. I feel confident that my BMs can choose appropriate shoes. If a bride asked me to wear a specific shoe - just that shoe with no choice - I would do it but in my head I'd think 'bridezilla!'
