My FH and I just got in a fight about this. I was going to change my name but then I just woke up one day and it hit me. I don't want to change my name- I've had it my whole life. Plus, I hate his name. He has a very ethnic name and neither of us are that ethnicity (he's adopted). I tried to get him to change his name to a combination of our names but he wouldn't budge. He says that the entire wedding rpocess is for me and the one thing he asks is that I take his name. (I have to admit, up until this point, he's given me everything I asked for in reference to the wedding) What are you girls doing?

I told my FH if he quicks smoking I'll add his last name to mine, but I'm keeping my name!

My FH is the ONLY male in his family so hes the carrier. He wants me to take his name in the worst way, but I don't want to take it at all! so I told him, you quick smoking I'll add it. We are still fighting, I'm not looking forward when we go to get our license, because thats going to be the big fight! But then it will end there!

I am making my maiden name a second middle name and taking FH's last name so I can use all of my names however I want. I am traditional enough to take FH's name regardless of how ethnic and phonetically difficult it is. I am just as much of a legacy to my family as my brother is and keeping my last name without taking my FH's last name is not something my father would have expected (or wanted) me to do.

My FH pulled the 'only male' thing too. I have no problem with our kids taking his name. It just don't want it. (Although his name is eight letters and four sylabols- not looking forward to teaching a toddler this).

I'm taking his...and thank God his last name goes well with my first name, otherwise there would be a fight!!! However he is fighting me on if we have 2 sons can one of them take my maiden last name. My brothers are only girl producers, so the family name is dying with our generation. I am trying to fight my FH that our family name be carried on.
I did once date a guy whose last name was Hanna. I asked him if he would be offended if he married someone and they didn't take his last name. He said yes, and I said well I guess we're never getting married because there is no way I would have my name be Janna Hanna!!!

My fh name translates to sick in the head. Because his ancestors refused to give the church their properity so they were all excommicated for like a 100 yrs. They fought the church, and influence Dante, there name is mentioned in Dantes inferno.

I was going to hyphenate, but I think I'm just going to take his last name... I don't feel like dealing with the confusion of having two names.... When people have to look stuff up, they can't even handle one name, let alone two.

Yeah I'll be honored that he lets me take his name and lose the reputation I've earned in my field and get no work anymore. Then again, maybe I should feel honored that he let me go to school and get a degree and even have a career!!!
I don't know why people feel they have to comment on anyone else's choice about this or about whether a mother should work!!
