Are you doing traditional vows or writing your own vows?

Original post by Bridex100

If you are writing your own, are you memorizing them or reading it off a piece of paper.

I'm afraid I may forget my vows when I get to the alter!

We ran into a power struggle over the vows. We are both catholic, and both have very catholic families. I wanted to do traditional vows (one less thing to worry about) and my DH wanted to write our own (more personal). Well, rock, paper, sissor later and I had lost, under the condition that we would recite them from memory as apposed to reading them off a piece of paper.
3 weeks before the wedding our priest told us we needed to submit our vows for approval, and my DH had not even started to write his yet...
DH tried to change his mind again to go back to traditional vows but I wasn't having it since I had already writen mine.
So we wrote our own and recited them to each other a week or so before the wedding so we could appreciate them under a normal enviornment instead of hearing them blind on the biggest day of our lives where our nerves were overruling every part of our body.
LOL!

We are doing traditional! I feel like I'd be too nervous in front of everyone to do my own vows!
