Are you getting a prenup? what do you think of them?
1. Totally necessary nowadays with divorce rates the way they are 2. Would never agree to a prenup 3. I don't mind getting a prenup bc I know I'm going to be with FH forever 4. Other
FH and I are not doing a prenup.
One of my friends is about to get engaged but the guy's family wants her to sign a prenup and now she is insulted and doesn't want to go through with it. I told her that she shouldn't take it personally. His family just wants to protect the family's assets.

We don't have one. No need to, the only thing we own that's of any worth is our house.

Marriage is about love not about $ , this, and that. We do not like prenups!!!

I want one (I am a law student so I know why you should have one) but he is so against it. I think everyone should have one!

We had no need to get one and so we didn't. However, if he had something he'd wanted to protect I wouldn't have been insulted if he'd asked me to sign one.

I have investments and some real property left to me by my mother. My attorney advised me that I should ask FH to sign a pre-nuptual agreement that had him acknowledge that he would leave the relationship with what he came in with.
I would NEVER make him sign such a document. We share 2 children and those boys are the most valuable thing to both of us. If we were to ever go our seperate ways I would want us to do so as complete equals.
What is mine is also his. It is as simple as that.

We are not doing a prenup..... I don't like starting our life together with the thought of it ending....Maybe idealistic and not realistic enogh-but we both feel that way.
Perhaps we would feel differently if we had a lot more $$$$ though!

Neither one of us are pushing for one- we have nothing that we will fight over. Someday when we will build up assest ... wait, it will be too late by then

We don't have many assets that are worth a prenup, but our pensions are another story. We just agreed that I wouldn't go after his if he won't go after mine!

I'm not, I don't think it's necessary, maybe if one of us had a ton of money to protect??? But even still I doubt it.

haha I always joke to DH we should have gotten a prenup so he doesn't take all my things (that are non-existent). then I tell him he can have my debt in the divorce settlement.

Other.
Neither of us have anything to protect. If he came from money I would sign. I know I love him and want to spend my life with him and if that's what I have to do then so be it. I completely understand that the family would want to protect assests.

we both so poor- we got nothing and anything that we do get we;d get together so we'd both deserve equal -even in our worst fight between the two of us and each with others - its never been so bad - so i cannot imagine a messy break up-we would still probably be friends at the least!

We are definitely getting one. Although neither of us have much money on our own - our parents do. After working their entire lives it would be an insult for us not to protect the investments given to us by our parents.
We never plan on getting a divorce - in fact neither of us believe in it, but out of respect for our families - we will have one.
Marriage unfortunately is NOT about love. Legal marriage is a contract and a business commitment. Why get married, if not for legal reasons (or taxes)? Otherwise you can just love each other and live together and not FORMALLY / LEGALLY tie the knot.

I think a prenup is fine but we're not going to have one. It's just not for us, we're young and neither one of us has anything that we need to protect anyway. So it never crosses our minds to get one. However, if either one us had lots of assets, I wouldn't be against signing one (believing fully that we'd never have to use it).

Nope.....We've been together since we were 18; we are 26 now. We have been financially tied to each other for 6 years so we pretty much share everything jointly now and a pre-nup would totally be irrelavant....

Re: Are you getting a prenup? what do you think of them?
This area has been on my mind for awhile. Ive been saying that I want one (FH doesn't seem to mind) bc he has accrued a large amount of debt...but I guess so have I. And honestly I have no clue, really, as to how these documents work. All that technical stuff, which really, I dont have that much time to take care of.
And Im sure soon they'll make them easy enough to where all we'd have to do is complete a form on the web! haha...

well said!
the lawyers may not like it, but family is more important than $...... the union is more important than the assets. The only people who should get prenups are folks like the trumps (where I'm suspicious of the genuine love he really has had for each of his dozen trophy wives... and likewise with the wives and their love of him...)

I agree.
I worked for divorce attorneys for over 5 years. Unfortunatley we can not predict the future, but I love FH to the point that I would do anything to protect him and myself in the event things dont work out.
I could never imagine going thru all that pain and bickering back and forth over finances. While I dont have anything now, I plan on having it in the future. Further earnings included, to save time andpain later, Im getting a prenup. I witnessed just waaaaaaaaaay too much. Ive seen clients drawing up prenups, and ive seen divorces that were literally painless (from what weve seen) and quick bc both parties rights were protected.
What we will be inheriting is another reason. And the aforementioned reason out of respect is another point.
Alot of times in our lives we will do anything to protect ourselves, and this should be included.
