ARE YOU GOING TO TAKE HIS NAME, HYPHENATE, or KEEP YOURS?

Original post by PoeticJustice

I saw this topic on the knot and it is actually very interesting:

'So I am curious about what you girls all think about the tradition of the bride changing her last name after exchanging vows? What you are deciding to do....are you keeping your maiden name, hyphenating, taking on your FI's last name, or other?'

I'm taking which is no problem at all. . . the problem is writing it! I'm not kidding when I say I'm having issues when I try to quickly sign my soon to be 'new' last name cause it has a double Z in it. My handwriting is bad enough as is and now with that double Z ne wnew signature is horendous!

I know someone that was dating a guy with that last name 'Dikphat'

Can you IMAGINE!?

Poor girl! I had a teacher in elementary school who had gotten married and her last name changed from McCarthy to WEINER!!! I don't know how you do that with a classroom full of 8 year olds.

I'm taking his last name. It flows well with mine and my last name sounds retarded.

Fh doesn't care if I keep mine, would like me to take his, and defiantely does not want me to hyphenate. Hyphenating is what I was going to do.

i cannot WAIT to take his last name! i am really excited. . . i love my last name but i cant wait to become a family

someone that married into my family kept their own last name - and it really hurt us. . . so since then i was 100% sure i was taking his, honestly, i dont think FH would stand for it any other way! we are both pretty traditional though so this was an easy decision!

i am excited bc i get to keep my initials lol.

Totally taking his. Mostly because my last name is impossible to pronounce and his is so much easier! AND I get to keep the same initials. BONUS!

I am without a doubt going to take his last name and never really thought I would have a problem with this at all since I truly dislike my own last name, but as it approaches, it seems so odd that the name and identity I have used for the last 25 years is just taken away like that!

I am taking his. I don't feel like this is me losing my identity; it's me adapting to show that I'm a married woman and starting a new family. I have no problem with that. In fact, I think it's kinda cool.

I sort of wish I could take a new FIRST name though. Mine bugs me. Remember how on 'Friends' Phoebe went to change her name after marrying Mike and she named herself Princess Consuela BananaHammock?

That's how I feel. Everyone thinks I'm weird!

I know!! I guess I feel this way because my best friend got married last year and when people call her by her new married name, I'm like, who the hell is that?!
I'm excited to take his last name and for our eparty a few people wrote checks out as if we were already married and seeing that gave me goosebumps but I still feel like I am leaving a big piece of who I am behind!

Can't WAIT to take his name...tired of my name being a punchline for so long Even before I got the 'joke' I still hated my last name. People always mispronounce it...that I just don't get!!!

Although, once I take FH's name...I'll have to deal with misspellings. His name is another version of a rather common name...so people tend to spell it in the common way. It's just the difference of one letter. hahaha!

Whoops! I totally didn't realize I ended up on 08! Hope you don't mind me contributing!
