I saw this topic on the knot and it is actually very interesting:

'So I am curious about what you girls all think about the tradition of the bride changing her last name after exchanging vows? What you are deciding to do....are you keeping your maiden name, hyphenating, taking on your FI's last name, or other?'

I'm taking his, our future children will have his, BUT I want to keep mine professionally. NYC Board of Education actually has a way to get paid under your married name but work under your maiden name. I work wih a lot of women who've done this, and men whose wives have kept their name this way.

My name isn't fantastic, there's no history to it, I have two brothers to carry it on, but... it's mine. I'd miss it.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to make FH understand that I'm not rejecting him by wanting to do this, and I'm all set.

I guess I am in the very small minority here... I really don't want to change my name, but it is important to my fiance. Professionally, I am never changing it, and he is okay with that. Legally, I may add his name without a hyphen - it is only four letters!

I am very attached to my name and don't want to give it up. He really wants me to change it... we will see I guess!

As much as I love my name.. i am taking his.

I have even started to practice writing it (i know im a dork), but i think it will make the transition easier.

Mine was changed through immigration so I really could give a crap less, but I think my friends are gonna have a hard time with it...I get called VITO all the time

We've actually been in the practice of merging our friends last names with their DH or FH LOL

Veronica Fey + Rob Murphy = The MurFeys

Rosella D'Aulisa + Dan Barton= The B'Artones

Jessica Vito + Dan Buckley= ?

Vicklyo???

They're weaning into calling me Bucks so I think they'll adjust....we all call Dan 'Fuckley' anyway

My FH actually told me that he wouldn't mind if I kept my last night, because my name flows very nicely. But, I am still on the fence with it. I might hyphenate it, or just take his...decisions!!

Actually he's playing in Brooklyn this weekend. He hasn't played at McCoys since then!! im excited to take his but i am a little sad to lose my own....i kind of feel like with his name im a 'mom' (cuz it just reminds me of his mom etc) and i feel like i do lose a part of me. despite all this...im still excited!
