Are you having a Viennese Hour or something similar?

Original post by EJSD2006

I want to have it because FH's family is italian and I feel like they'll be expecting it. But FH doesn't want to spend the extra money and if we did have one then the reception wouldn't end until 1:30am! He feels no one will stay that late so it's a waste. I'm thinking of doing maybe just the extra dessert plates but I think FH's family will think we're cheap.

What about you girls?

FH didn't want a mini-viennese. Something about there is always only ONE cannoli on the little tray and he doesn't like that, so for him I negotiated with the hall for full viennese. We are not adding the extra hour however because no amount of negotiating could get them to add that at any price.

I barked a little about the price so the BM threw in free vienese trays... would have cost $6 a person otherwise.

While the Viennese hour does add on another hour of your reception, its not really worth it. Your guests will be eating so much with the CH, reception and cake.. Its not really worth it. The only reason i would have wanted mine was for the candy cart and the popcorn machine But it was an extra 15 pp and that was a lil too much. It didnt seem worth it

We are pushing the maximum capacity of our hall, so there physically is no space left in the room to set up the full Viennese hour with the # of guests we are having. Instead, our caterer offered us the option of having the dessert trays at each table and having table-side cordial service during this time. I think this was a great compromise, plus it saved us a lot of money!

also keep in mind that if you extend your reception for an hr you may have to pay your other vendors extra to stay too.

We had dessert tables brought in but I was so busy doing something else I rarely saw them.

If I had to do it all over again I would have a chocolate fountain and petit fours on the tables.

We are having it. The only reason why we even booked it was because we both wanted the extra hour added to our reception. We want the night to last forever! So our wedding will be from 6pm-12. At first I did not even want the food I just wanted the extra hour of people dancing, but our catering hall does the VH in the lobby right outside the room, so if people want to dance they still can.

We are having a chocolate fountaon, cookies and patries on each table, the wedding cake (aobviuosly) and a ice cream sundae bar so we decided against the viennese hour.

We're having it. My FMIL really wanted it and I'm never one to say no to dessert so we went for it. Our reception won't end until 1:30 but that's ok. The longer the party, the better. We're just letting people know on the menu cards to leave room for it so they're prepared!

My hall threw in vienesse or choc.fountain if we booked by end of may. We did & went w/ the choco. fountatin, sounds yummy..
You should see if your hall will throw something in, even just an ice cream bar or cordials. We're not extending the reception though..

I wasn't going to do it, but the hall included it, so yes we are having one.

We're doing the viennese, North Ritz calls it the Dessert Cafe. But we are not doing the extra house. They set it up in the cocktail room so people can get their desserts, but you can still dance and the music continues.

We are having this as well.

yes we're having one, but i dont think it's at all necessary, especially because our cocktail hour and reception menus are so huge. but, fiancee wanted it. oh well...

dont forget, an extra hour of dessert means an extra hour of dj or band (in our case, both) and maybe an extra hour of photographer and videographer...

I din't want there to be a break in the party so we are not doing a viennese hour. But we are doing cookies and pasties on the tables and then our hall is bringing in a cappucino/espresso bar w/ cordials.
