are you having everyone introduced at the reception
Original post by cherandgeo
FH wants all grandparents, all parents and then the bridal party (5 of each) and then us.
Is that too many people to introduce?

Didn't realize it was such a heated debate! LOL I think considering two out of the three grandma's can't walk that well, we may just aknowledge them and then come in with the parents, then bridal party and then us.
Thank you ladies for all your help. This board is so great for all these little questions.
its not, i left the caps lock on by accident...even when i am mad on the boards i dont use all caps, if im mad it will be expressed in what im saying.

I dont think it HAS to be done, its not something that is a must. People said they've never seen it, and i simply said that ive always seen this it was just answering that part. Of course if they cant walk well dont make them do it, its really not necessary. I dont know if im even doing it most likely wont. My grandfather died less than a year ago on my dads side, then my moms mother will have to be here alone bc they live overseas and bc of my grandfathers medical condition he can't fly. So both grandmothers will be alone...Then Fh has only 1 living grandparent, and his grandmother cant walk well so we wont make her do it. We have no grandfathers that will be at the wedding

I was considering having my grandmother who will be 93 at the time (God willing) introduced, but I have actually never seen it done either. I guess it really is a personal choice.

That could be it. I should've clarified and said not that I've been to that many weddings in the past few years, only one and she was Polish. One of the DJ's or Bands I had met with suggested not introducing anyone in the bridal party except for FH and I to save time, but I think it's part of the charm of being in a wedding, so I will do it and if I'm lucky enough to have my Grandmother around for another year and she is able to make it from Boston, I'll definitely have her introduced as well.
thanks girls.

oh, I'm sorry about your grandpa. When we were doing the seating chart I was getting all upset. At first I was wanting a head table with us and the parents (since all of the bridal party is married) but then I was telling him how he had more people that me, and he didn't get it. So then I was crying b/c i realized that I only have one set of living grandparents, my stepmom just passed away this march so it's just my mom and dad who are divorced and then sister and brother and he has three sets of grandparents, two sets of parents and then a brother and a sister who are both married, so we decided against it. It ***** that the ones you love can't all be there. Very sad.

thank you
and so sorry for your loss
i know how it feels, FH family is going to out number mine by ALOT, he will have over 100 family members and ill be happy if i have 20 and i dont even know about that...Most my family is overseas so its hard for them to come here, grandmothers are coming and one of my aunts but thats all i know of. I have some family here but not alot...Don't let that effect you, dont forget they're your family now too so i guess see it as just everyone there for the BOTH of you

That's a good way to think about it and we live closer to his family too, so it helps that they are really accepting and friendly. I couldn't ask for better in laws.

yeah just dont focus on who is there for you and who is there for Fh, those that are most important to you will be there, the numbers dont matter. Thats great then so it will make it feel even more like you are part of their family, i get along with IL's great too so its just the way ill look at it.

Maybe you two should ask the grandmothers if they would like to be announced or if they would prefer to be acknowledged at their seat the reception. This way, you can still acknowledge them, but don't have to worry about them walking in.
This is what we did, and they were very appreciative of it..... All 4 of my grandparents are still alive (none of DH's), and it took long enough for them to walk down the isle in the ceremony - I couldn't imagine them entering the reception!
They are all in their 80s, so it was much better just aknowledging them at their seats.
As for the song timing.....just point out to your dj when you want to come out, and he'll make sure it happens. They can mix the song shorter, or stretch out the entrances.

I'm butting in - I'm italian and have been to 8 zillion italian weddings and I do think it's typically an italian thing... b/c italian grandparents are right up there with parents (mine pretty much raised and lived with me) so that's probably why... i don't normally see it at non-italian weddings.
I think it's nice personally but I'm not doing it but I'm probably not announcing anyone.

I think it's a wonderful idea to have your Grandmother introduced. If mine were still with us (she passed away 3 yrs ago at 94) I'd definitely do it.

Re: are you having everyone introduced at the reception
None of our grandparents were at the wedding (but if they were there, we would not have had them introduced). We had both sets of parents introduced and all the bm's and gm's, and us of course.

we didn't even have ourselves introduced I guess we felt silly since it was a small reception with about 50 people, and we attended 1/2 the CH
