I'd like to have music at the coctail hour, but the reception band i'm thinking of booking doesn't offer that in their package.
I've spoken to a few of my friends about this and they said that they don't remember ever going to a coctail hour that had music, and if there was music, they really didn't notice.
Ideally I'd love to have a classical trio play for the coctail hour, but that's at least $750.
Any ideas, suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

We hired an independent Harpist for an hour and a half and we will have the harp hooked up to the speaker sytem so lightly that you can always hear it from wherever you are standing

our dj threw that in for us as long as its recorded. I would suggest that and just record off of classical or whatever you like cds nad make a mix up.
We are doing irish ballads/drinking songs/ some instrumental metal songs that are not annoying, some folk music etc. We are just playing it LOW because that is the worst to have LOUD music at the cocktail hour.

My dj is playing a prerecorded cd - it's only an hour - and really NO ONE notices the music
I say go w/ that!

My DJ is including an hour for the cocktail hour. I didn't think of it either. He threw it in for us.

I was at a wedding a week and a half ago and you couldnt hear the music that was playing. Most people are too busy talking and mingling... and ofcorse Eating!

We're doing the steel drum band... it's on the beach so it makes sense. But it's definitely not neccessary. Try elite music- I know they have all that stuff.

since my wedding is 5 days before xmas i kind of want xmas music playing during CH. just a light sound for the background. And more of the musical xmas songs not so much so the songs with words.
if i do that i will have my dad make a CD so we dont have to pay our DJ $150 for his own music beign played
I just went to Fh's holiday party and they had this amazing singer there..doing all holidy and like rat pack music. it was wonderful. I think he charges like $350 tho....don't know if that's too much for you. We got his card...but it is kinda a lot..but our Ch is 1 & 1/2 hours...

Who are you using for your caylpso band? What is the general cost? I think that is a great idea! We're on the beach and i think it would be really cool.

I was actually thinking of asking the RH if they could play a cd or two for us...definitely much cheaper in the long run!!

I'm having a string quartet, and it was a bit less than $750. You can FM me for details if you want.
