So my BM tells me today (the one who I had the reservations about asking) that she saw a great wedding gift for me and FH in a magazine but she wasn't sure if we would like it.
So me, being me, said you saw a picture of cash in a magazine? Cool.
She then proceeds to tell me that it's a set of 12 Christmas ornaments, of animals, that each have a symbolism for newlyweds.
ORNAMENTS????
Was I totally out of line to tell her that that's a house warming gift, not a wedding present???
Guess who's not being invited with a guest anymore!

JMO I think that is kind of rude. It is the thought that counts. Maybe it is something she had in mind to give at your bridal shower. Aren't your shower gifts consider a wedding gift too. Maybe she also intends to give $$$ on your wedding day also. But this is JMO
ITA... and this is the BM that you felt wasn't really excited for you.... today she thought of a gift for you and you pretty much shot her down. So if she was working on changing her behavior this might have pushed it back to square one. I think you should cut her a little slack. No matter how small or 'cheesy' the gift is you should always be gracious. JMO
i agree 100%. maybe that gift she picked out meant something to her. it's the thought that counts. JMO

Honestly... if I was in her shoes I think I would have died if you said that to me. Sorry. I feel really bad for her right now. I know weddings are expensive and the gifts really help but that is not what you base who you invite on. You are having a wedding to celebrate your love for your husband not so you get gifts from your guests. They give gifts out of the kindness of there hearts regardless if they are small and meaningful or money to help you and FH begin your lives. JMO... sorry

I totally agree that was not nice that you said that to her exp after the whole fiasco with you asking her to be more involved. And ChrissyV729 is right you dont base who you invite on the gift they give!!!

Re: Are you kidding me???
I agree with a lot of ladies on here that say it is the thought that counts. Also these are hard economic times and it is something that we all have to remember. That our wedding is not #1 on everyone elses list of financial responsibilities.

I agree with the ladies here- it's the thought that counts, and she was being more thoughtful than most.
That being said, I probably would have said the EXACT same thing you did before I had a chance to think about it, so no worries. We all talk before we think sometimes. You may want to say something to her.

Re: Are you kidding me???
I'm sorry if that came off rude or offensive to anyone.
I guess since you don't know the girl, it can be construed as acceptable behavior, the thought that counts, etc.
But knowing her, it is a completely different situation. More money than god is involved, so it's certainly not hard economic times. It's more that it's just a continuation of things like 2 foot tall light up penguins for no apparent reason. She just doesn't think about things practically in that respect. She purposely doesn't buy off registries, she's the kind that would rather get you something that she thinks you want than what you want.
I don't know, maybe I'm a biznatch, and if it comes off that way, sorry. I really took a chance by including her in the bridal party. She was always going to be my guest, but I was really on the fence about her being a bridesmaid. Now I'm afraid that I made a mistake. Not that I'm not going to profit off of her, but that she's going to take this approach to the other costs associated with the BP and make it rough on my other girls.

Yea I think it is the thought that counts. I mean if my bridesmaid/friend had said that to me, I would probably have said something like...'oh thats cute' or something. I wouldnt want to make them feel bad and think I was unappreciative even if I was slightly disappointed.

Re: Are you kidding me???
hmm , I dno I like getting people different, thoughtful gifts and your wedding is in december so I would probably like that sort of thing.
That said, I have an aunt who gives the worst gifts (one year, I got a piggy bank shaped like an outhouse and you pushed the button and it said gross stuff...... not even joking!) but I always smile and say thank you anyway.. lol
i don't think it's that bad of a gift to be honest... I love christmas and I would be reminded of our wedding every year decorating the tree....maybe I'm missing something here?

Re: Are you kidding me???
I actually think that is very thoughtful that she thought of you. She is the one who you originally doubted... and yet here she is thinking beyond cash... I think that counts for something... Me personally, I would rather the gift from the heart than the money. We are not expecting money from everyone...

I hate this too. I understand some people dont care about weddings but why tell engaged or married girls this lol. Sometimes you keep your opinions to yourself. I see it done in other situations too, like so many say 'ugh i hate when i am invited to a friends e-party' i understand you might not like the idea of it but in the end it is still your friend and shouldn't tell them that you hate attending these. HOnestly, if someone had said that to me then i wouldnt even want them there. If they see my party as such a big incovenience for them and cant put their feelings aside and just be happy for their friend then stay home and be selfish. Guess what, I have had to attend alot of parties that I might not particular like but at the same time when it was for a friend i was just real happy for my friend and just wanted to celebrate with them and thats it.

I couldnt have said it any better... my friend who i dont see as often as this girl asked me why i didnt put that girl in the bp instead... why? so she can cause grief and battle me on fittings, gifts, etc etc ... I think not LOL I would have been a fool to aks her to be in it, which is why i made my considerations carefully.... I did have a reservation about 1 girl but i spoke to her about it before i asked her to be a part of it... But bottom line, theres always someone in our life that tends to act in a way that we dont care for, but is shes a real friend, you'll work through it all
