Ive spoken to a few people and they've said things like 'how can you get married at this time'...
I dont think any of us that planned our wedding over the past few years expected an economic downfall to take place.
Hopefully things will get better....

Re: are you scared?
It is a scarey time, but like you said, we've all been planning our weddings since before all this economic turmoil so what can we do? I can't believe people are saying things to you though. That is just ridiculous and none of their business.

Re: are you scared?
YES!!!!!!!!
FH and I had one of our infamous 4am conversations...You know how you wake up in the middle of the night and cant get back to sleep? We just went through all the things that still need to be paid for and we both sighed..I asked if he had regrets and he said no, and honestly neither do I. This is not the most opportune time to plan a wedding but hey, we are providing business to vendors and businesses and stimulating the economy aren't we? lol
I feel like hey, deposits are down, contracts are signed and at this point it is too late to turn back. If costs need to be cut we came up with diff ways to scale things down ( smaller photo packages, no limos, possibly forgo favors etc)
No worries girls where there is a will there is a way!

You know its so funny (not ha ha funny) but funny because last night I woke up at like 3:30 and was thinking about everything with the wedding. We're having a relatively inexpensive reception, but I'm thinking about our guests. What if no one wants to come because of money? Hey we all know once we get a wedding invite, we have to get some cash for outfits, lodging (if needed), and a gift for the bride and groom...
I dont want gifts! I just want them to come and enjoy our day!!! And it worries me that people wont come because of the money situation...

Never looked at it as though WE were stimulating the economy-we really are. Consider the money we pay for all the services for our weddings....definately boosts the economy..

H ELL YEAH DONNA!!! We are doing A LOT to stimulate the economy!! These doomsday propagandists really drive me freaking nuts!!! They go around spreading fear and panic in people, all the while sitting back and buying LESS than they ever have, which is keeping our economy in the crapper! My boss is one of them, so I get it every day. I practically have to drag him off the sales floor, which is his favorite place to get into heated, depressing conversations with other staffers, or even CUSTOMERS about the state of the economy!!!! We should all be proud to be strong in our decisions to get married this year, and keep doing our thing!!!

I am not scared to PLAN during this economy- things are already done and paid for. I am only scared of when we live together and God forbid one of us lose our job.

Re: are you scared?
DH and I were very stressed before the wedding, especially as family members started losing their jobs. We felt guilty in some ways about having a wedding. There isn't anything you can do though. DH works in commercial real estate and although his job is fairly sound, you just never know. We did cut back on some extras, and no-1 even missed them. We also had a lot of people who told us they couldn't make it especially from oot because of the economy, job loss, mortgage issues, we understood. Just make the best of it, its should be the happiest time of your life. You can't control the economy only your happiness.

Re: are you scared?
I have decided it not worth it to sit in fear of what can happen with this economy. I guess thats because I have lost my job twice in the past when there were changes in the economy. This is not the first time the economy tanked and sure wont be the last. I learned after the last time to be smart about things and thats all you can do.....cant live in fear.

Re: are you scared?
the only thing i'm afraid of is a lot of NO RSVP's i don't under stand how someone could say no to going to a wedding simply because the economy stinks I mean it is paid for and if you can't give a gift for whatever reason so be it. At least come and celebrate with us

ITA ...it is free food and booze!!!!!!!That should be reason enough to come lol. Where else will you be able to dance, eat and drink for free in this economy?!
Plus wedding etiquette says you have a full year to give the couple a gift! you can still celebrate with the couple and give whatever you can at a later date.
