Are you using an officiant you don't really know?

Are you using an officiant you don't really know?

We are using an officiant recommended by a friend. We met him once, and planned the vows, and next will see him either at the rehearsal or at the wedding itself (ceremony taking place at the reception hall). Should we invite him to the wedding? I know we definitely would if it was someone we had known, but it seems kind of random to ask him, and I don't know if he would even enjoy going to a wedding where he knows no one...What is everyone else doing about this?

Our officient told us not to invite him. He said its way too much money...he will stay for the cocktail hour and then leave.

I am going to invite my officiant and I really don't know him. I am guessing he wont come though. Maybe just stay for the cocktail hour.

Thanks! Do you have to pay for a meal if they are just at the cocktail hour? Or do they just count heads when people sit for the meal?

It's considered polite to invite them to the whole reception.

I am

I dont know this guy. Met him once. I'll need to see him again to choose his outfit (haha)

He's a nice guy very unimposing and I appreciate that a LOT being Agnostic.

He's also only $200!!! WHOOHOOO

He and his wife are invited to the reception. Since Im not meeting my minimum this isnt a big deal for me.

we didn't invite ours. I wondered the same thing. but we figured he wouldn't come anyway, so we figured we'd save the invite for any people we missed on our list..

Its up to you, but you don't have to.

We don't have to pay for him to attend the cocktail hour. I would be annoyed if I had to.

We did not invite ours. I don't think he expected to be invited.

We've met our minister briefly - just to say hello as we were leaving his church service on Christmas eve and Easter services.

We're having an official meeting with him on April 26 so he can get to know us and discuss our ceremony, etc.

We're inviting the minister and his wife to our reception as a courtesy (plus, he knows my sister and her husband since they were members of his church before they moved).

I don't really know my officiant. I am going to ask him to stay for the reception but if he says no I will invite him to the cocktail hour!

I don't know mine, We met her once and see her a few more times. I did like her though. She is married, I think we will invite her & her hsuband to be polite, but it might be weird if they come. Where will I seat them?
However, I don't think she has another wedding that day so far, so she may come. She is into getting to know people if she is going to marry them.

We'll see.

I think in general, they don't get invited to the reception if you haven't known them. I've met with two and both of them say they don't stay after the ceremony.

I think people usually invite their officient, but I think that applies to people who actually KNOW their officient.
We didn't invite ours. I didn't think he'd even want to stay!

My officiant is a friend of the family who was invited anyway and who is doing the ceremony as a gift. But, I know when he does weddings for people he doesnt know he tells them that he wont be able to stay due to his schedule.

We have since the first meeting of our officiant become very close with him. We are definately inviting him and we hope he will come. Pretty sure he will. I think for us it makes a BIG difference if he is there with us.. I am really looking foward to the ceremony because he knows us and he will make it very personable and memorable.
