Are you where you thought you would be?

Are you where you thought you would be?

I have been thinking a lot about where I pictured myself to be by now when I was younger. I am on track for most of it, but my career is in the toliet. I just can't seem to get myself to where I want to be in that area. I am even debating about moving away from my DH to try the theatre scene in London for a few months(I have been thinking about it forever). I just need to do something.

I was just wondering if everyone else is happy with where they are currently.

I am exactly where I thought I would be. I always wanted to get married at 26, finish my doctorate by 30, travel for the first 5 years of marriage, then settle down and have kids at 32 and 35.

Even being right on track doesn't mean I don't wonder what would have happened had I chosen or stuck with another career or path. Though I am by no means over the hill at 27, I feel like I have invested a great deal of time and education in one particular career path, so even if I sometimes wish for a different career, a switch would be incredibly difficult.

No, not really.

My career is in the toilet too, as a matter of fact its basically just sewer garbage.

I also never thought in a million years I would be this overweight.

At least I am in a happy marriage - I got ONE thing going for me....

good luck with your decisions!

I've never tracked things to be in a certain order. I more go where the Lord leads me and it has worked out great so far.

Im no where near where I wanted to be in a few areas. I still would like to finish my education as well as find a more satisfying job. Im also culturally behind. I thought I would have experienced a lot more by my age.
Kinda sad about it, but it just makes my drive to accomplish my goals even stronger.
It may have taken more time that you would have liked, but dont come down on yourself for it. Let that be your inspiration to meet all your expectations!

Not at all. I went back to school at 29 for a career change and it took me a long time to finish the degree. I am now in a new career and glad I made the change. I also lost both of my parents the year I turned 29. I never imagined I wouldn't have had them at my wedding, that they never would have met my husband or possibly my future children. Overall, I am happy, but not at all where I thought I would be at this point in my life. It is not a bad thing, but I feel like I constantly have to re-evaluate what I am doing and where I want to go and that doesn't seem to stay constant.

I have alot of regrets (education/career wise) because all these great (alas missed) opportunities slipped on by because of my fear of jumping head first into them or complete laziness. I still really don't know what I want to be when I grow up, so I'm definitely dissapointed in that aspect of my life.

Otherwise, it's pretty much status quo. Husband, house, kiddies.

close to it

but i never really had an idea of where i wanted my life to go.....low expectations of myself

although, by the time she was my age, my mother had 4 kids, the youngest being 3 . So according to her standards......I'm waaaaaaaaaay behind!!!

I never really had career goals. At some point in my life, I thought I'd be married younger & have kids by now & at other points, I didn't see myself marreid at all, so either way, I'm not where I'd thought I'd be.

Most importantly, I always thought that by now, I'd know what I want out of life & I still really don't.

NO!!! I thought I would be a literary agent by now. I really thought I would have left my old job on my own a few years before they laid me off. And I would have gone to work for a literary agency and learned the ropes and now I would be an agent.

I am married, though. So I guess I have part of what I planned for myself.

i'm where I wanted to be. Married at 25, and working on my doctorate in school and child psychology. The only thing that is different about where I thought I would be is that I thought I would finish my dissertation and get my doctorate by next may, but that isn't going to happen for a little longer. It is taking me too long to get started.

I am not sure where I wanted to be but I know its not here - career wise anyway. I didn't think I would get married and I did. I am over weight - I never thought I would let myself get so heavy but I did. I have self esteem issues that I was hoping I would have worked through by now. So the only one happy part of my life right now is my DH and my dog.

I feel I am where i though professionally. I have a great job on Li as a teacher, have my Masters+15 and am tenured. As far as everything else, well no thngs didnt turn out the way I thought they would. I do not regret any decisions I have made, especially in the last year but I still am not where I thought I would be...Like someone saidinthe above post, I am going to live my life to the fullest and let things happen...

nope, nowhere even close. I feel like I haven't accomplished anything career wise. I still haven't finished my ba and have no clue when that will be. It's kind of frustating especially because it makes getting a job so much more difficult.

Kind of-I always said I wanted to be married around 25-which i will be on my way to 27 when we do. But career and life wise...career is not even worth talking about and life isnt so bad.

I realize that the more deadlines and timelines you plan for yourself the easier it is to stress about what I could have done different. Its like those books-where you pick which part to read next-if you change the way you did things you wouldnt be where you are today and maybe you wouldnt have found the love of your life...for 5 more years!

Absolutely not !!!

I always envisioned myself unmarried, living in Manhattan working my way up the corporate ladder.

Instead, I am married, living on Long Island and a teacher.

The polar opposite of what I thought I wanted out of life and I absolutely love my life !!! I wouldn't trade anything because then I would not be who I am today.

Never thought I would be a teacher...and even better a teacher desperately looking for a job...I thought I would be a TV reporter somewhere (thats what I originally went to school for)

I never thought I would find a great guy and get married...which is something that I am so glad that I have

Re: Are you where you thought you would be?

nope!

thought i would have a career, just have a job...

thought i would be married with kids - i am married but lacking in the kids department. relatively speaking not so bad because a few years ago i accepted my fate as a spinster...

things are not fabulous but they could be a lot worse. rarely job, relationships, friends, family are all 100% - i feel good when 3 out of 4 are positive as i know life is a constant roller coaster.
