she just got the ticket for mouthing off IMO (which the cop deserved) !!! he got annoyed and did it out of spite. they both agreed she finished eating the candy before getting on the train. I hate cops like that!!!!

if she would have been nice about it, i'm sure they would have let it slide, but she made a snide comment and kept walking when the cop called after her

and she did receive a warning -- she chose to ignore

if he let her getaway with that, other people around the area would see this guy as a pushover

they way i see it, he didn't deserve to be mouthed off too, he was just telling her what the rules were.

if he let her get away with talking to him like, he'd be a pushover and other people would think they could get away with more serious offenses

I LOVE cops like that. She got what she deserved. She presented the cop her bluff card and he called on it. She mouthed off to him not once... but TWICE.

Stories like this absolutely make my day. And for those who say they hate cops like this... look at it from the cop's point of view. He lets this woman do her thing... what does that say of him? Says he is a wus IMO and doesn't know how to enforce the law.

Its funny too cause I am actually on the train returning to NY from Washington. I didn't take the Metro while I was down there so I couldn't tell ya if people were eating there or not.

okay, i lived in dc for 3 years and i have to tell you that they are absolutely ridiculous about this rule down there. her treatment was preposterous and i can't believe some of you are sticking up for the cop! she was done with the candy, she threw out the wrapper, and she was simple chewing! so why did he need her id after that? it doesn't make sense. especially since smoking is also banned in metro stations, but you are allowed to smoke on the escalators, so shouldn't it be the same rule for eating?

anyway, i've just got a different perspective i guess since i've lived through the hell of being starving on the metro and having to sneak food like it's some sort of capital offense.

I think we should move to DC. There must be no crime or terrorist issues for the police to deal with. Must be teh safest place to live

Oh please! Its DC- someone just got mugged with the time it took these guys to arrest this person. YOu know what- you chose to be a cop- there are some wise asses you will have to deal with - just like in every other profession. Just because you have a license to arrest someone doesn't mean you need to do it when your ego is a little bruised. These are the kinds of cops who beat the sh*t out of people. This woman did not do anythign worthy of being ARRESTED!!! Please!

ETA: when did she mouth off to him twice? I only saw the one time in the article.

Re: arrested... for eating candy!

ok, she mouthed off, but she didn't eat a candy bar in the station. The office saw her throw it out. So what was she arrested for? And he said 'if she stopped for the summons she wold not have been arrested'' a summons for what? she threw out the wrapper as asked.

She should not have mouthed off to the cop, but he should not have been harasing her.

And what's with the no cursing in the subways rule?

Re: arrested... for eating candy!

maybe i missed it, but i only saw it saw she mouthed off once.
the reason i hate cops like that (or maybe its the law i hate) is that there IS other crime to deal with... but he has to worry about someone with candy in their mouth???? give me a break! i wish cops were that strict here about cell phone use while driving... or other traffic violations that i see cops ignore!!! (but yet they'll pull me over for a license plate light out)
