Re: Arthur Murray....
I took lessons with them for my wedding. We had a blast but one piece of advice. They rushed us through the weeks and we finished our sessions way before the wedding. And we forgot a lot of the steps...if i could do it again i'd space them out like every other week or start closer to your wedding date...don't let them push you. I think ythey do it so you have to buy more sessions

I called the one in Bay Shore....they said it's $200 for 3 private lessons, 1 group lesson, and 1 practice. What is the difference between the group and the practice?

Are you learning a lot? Are you taking group or private lessons? What kind of dancing are you learning?

Re: Arthur Murray....
The group is an actual group lesson with several couples and the practice is a pretend 'party' that takes place right afterwards with the same several couples where you dance freely and they walk around and give you tips; we haven't done those yet, but that's how they were discribed to us; we did the free evaluation lesson and one private lesson but they were VERY pushy about adding more private lessons that we have been putting off going back for the group lesson (which I have already paid for!)...

So they try to get you to take more private lessons before the group lesson? How much do they charge for more private lessons?

We have a combination of both + the 'club night' on Wednesdays. We've learned quite a bit. FH and I were at a wedding yesterday and we used a lot of what we've learned.
We've been learning a routine for our wedding song, swing, foxtrot, waltz, merange (sp?), salsa, and the hustle.

WOW! That's a lot of dances. Can I ask if you have to pay separately for each style of dance, or can they teach you a different dance every lesson?

We paid for a package of the lessons (20 I think). We would learn the basic steps of all the dances on the intro/evaluation lesson and then each lesson afterwards we would review 2 and then add steps to both of them.

They didn't want to add just private lessons so I am not sure; they wanted us to do the 'bridal packages' which started at $700!! You learn 3 basic dances w/the package you have: the swing, the box and the waltz I believe; they said the other dances were extra to learn...I have mixed feelings on them, on one hand we learned a lot the few times we went, but they were just SO pushy I was very turned off by them I went to the one in Williston Park so maybe Bayside is not so bad...HTH!

We took them there. It was good, but they wanted not to choreograph our dance but to teach us basic steps. My DH services this as an account through his job so he spoke with the owner and they choreographed for us. We loved it but don't start too early!!

So they don't choreograph a dance? Why do you say not to start too early? How early is too early?
