Article - Children at Weddings
Huffpo Article: Children at WeddingsJust some food for thought for ladies who are trying to make that decision. The only kids at our wedding are in the bridal party. Knock on wood I haven't had any resistance - in fact one cousin told me 'No problem, that's a vacation day!' I've also designated my mom as the Complaints Department for family issues. FH and I will handle complaints from friends.
Has anyone encountered any positive or negative responses about your decision to have kids at your wedding?

My family doesn't want to bring their kids! They see it as an excuse to have a night out lol.His on the other hand, will be bringing them.
I really didnt want kids there, IMO its not an affair for children. But it wasn't worth the fight.

We are having children at our wedding. We have a daughter who is a flower girl along with her other cousins that are ringbearers and flower girls. We are a very close knit family and I could not imagine not having them there as they are a very important part of our family.

This! Parents get a night out to enjoy alone but some people don't want there to come to avoid putting more $ in the envelop to cover their children's plate.

We aren't having kids at the wedding - mostly everyone is understanding and view it as a nice night out!

The only kids invited are in the wedding party and one of our flower girls won't be at the reception because her parents feel like she's too little and they would like to enjoy a night to themselves so they have someone picking her up after the ceremony. But I feel like once we send out the invites I could see one family being upset about this

I am also only have those kids who are in the wedding party invited to the wedding. I know my own friends and closest family mostly would have planned not to bring their kids anyway. They view it as a night out alone and plan to get a babysitter. As far as FH's family and more distant family I'm not sure how they are going to react, but I don't care they will get over it if they even have a problem with it lol. I feel like it's just very common now to do this.

I might have a friend who might be offended, but she literally has her kids attached to her hips at all times so this won't come as a shock.I may be willing to let kids at the bridal shower as a compromise, but I can't see how they won't get bored watching somebody else open presents not intended for them.

this! I spoke to my siblings with kids early on so they've already made plans. I love the kids in my family, but want it to be a night out for just the adults.

We are having kids. However we don't really have that many so that is why we decided to. My ring bearers are 6 and 8 and then I have one other 5 year old cousin and FH has one 6 year old cousin. After that we have 4 cousin between 13-18 and then FH's sister is 14.

We invited kids. It seems like most people are deciding to leave them home, but our OOT guests with kids really appreciated it. I just left it up to the parents to decide if they wanted to get smashed or be mommy and daddy.

We lucked out as we don't have any little-little kids in our immediate families nor do any of our friends have kids. I am the youngest of 17 grandkids on one side of my family & 12 on my other side. My fiance' is one of 11 (both sides combined)We only have little ones when we start going into second cousins (my first cousin's kids)... but honestly, I don't know those kids as much as I know my first cousins, so it never crossed my mind that I would be inviting them. PLUS one of my cousins already said she wasn't ever planning to have her kids there as they wanted a night out haha
The youngest at our wedding will be my fiance's 13 year old cousin, so that works for me!

IDK what the etiquette is anymore. I remember as a kid seeing wedding invitations saying 'Adult Reception Only' but I wonder if that's a thing of the past. I think that message will have to be conveyed by word of mouth.
Do you have a wedding website? Maybe put it there?

Do you think by just putting the number of people invited on the RSVP's they would get the point? I'm scared I might be having more than 10 kids URGH

I'd be worried some people might not get the hint.

I'm in kind of weird situation because my son will be 9 at the time of our wedding. We always say that he's getting married too--so I feel like he should be able to have a couple of slots on the guest list. He wants his cousins (my cousins sons) from California, who are just about his age, to come. I'm not inviting any other kids, even other OOT's. If people get offended, oh well--everyone has to do what works best for them.

The only kids attending the wedding are those in the BP which is FH daughter as the FG, she'll be 6 1/2 and FH nephew as the RB, he'll be 7 1/2. If it wasnt that its FHs daughter there would be NO kids lol I decided not to have my godson or niece in the wedding bcuz they are younger and I want their parents to enjoy themselves. Plus, I dont want a bunch of kids running around.Welcome New Vendors
