Our rule of thumb:
For a colleague or friend, $100pp For a close friend or family, $125pp For a best friend or immediate family, $150pp+
I agree with this. That's what we do.

Re: $$$ as a Gift
For a co-worker I would probably give between $250-$300 depending on how close your FH is to this person.
I know that for a close friend I would probably give between $400-$500 but I am also overly generous and love giving people presents.

Re: $$$ as a Gift
It's so funny how different things are in NY. I haven't been to a wedding there in five years so I don't even have any clue. When I left it was around 150 a couple, its gone up so much! My out of town friends won't even come close to that since the going rate for a wedding here is about 50-75 a head and most people give gifts instead. IF I told my CA friends how much people give at weddings in NY, They would be shocked. Of course, out here an open bar is unheard of too!!!

Re: $$$ as a Gift
WOW! I'm inviting ALL of you to my wedding!! If your all being serious with these amounts then congrats to you , your doing well... But I sent this thread to some people I work with, the ones where people said $200 or $250 for a co-worker and they all laughed and hoped I didnt expect that from that...which I dont...Not one person said they have ever given that much money I dont expect to have my guests pay for their plate and I dont plan on even CONSIDERING that when I give a friend a gift. If they think thats RUDE...well, then they weren't my friends to begin with...This is THEIR/OUR wedding, not a money making event... If you choose to have your wedding at a place where its $100 a plate, thats fantastic but don't expect me to pay for YOUR choices...I feel the same way about my wedding. I know there are a few people that will be lucky to spare $25 and the thought never crossed my mind to question it.
I know this wasnt the initial idea of the thread but some of the responses freak me out a little.
That said ( sorry for the blabbing). We can only afford about $150 for us as a couple when giving a gift, as family or a Bridal party member probably $200 or $250.

Re: $$$ as a Gift
We give $200 for co-workers $250 for friends $300 plus for family or in bridal party
We will have another rule though after our wedding...whatever someone gave us we are giving back to them that exact amount when they get married (for the people getting married in the next few years)
I would be embarrassed if someone gave us $250 and we only gave them $200....JMO
And I agree with the wedding party thing....its ridiculous that they should be expected to give more...but that is the way things are....
