As a guest, what station do you automatically look for at the cocktail hour?
I don't want to be boring but I feel like people might miss the carving station and the pasta station if I eliminate them. I only get 4 stations.
How does everyone feel about have a pasta course instead? I was thinking it may add too much 'sitting' down time to the reception since i am cutting it short by 1/2 hour to extend the cocktail hour.....
thoughts?

I always look for cheese at the cocktail hour, but I'm obsessed with cheese so it might just be me As for the pasta thing, I think it might be too 'heavy' to have at dinner if you're having a meat/fish entree as well. After I eat pasta, the last thing I want to do is get up and dance. I don't think anyone will really miss the carving or pasta stations if you have something really unique instead. I love the idea of a margarita bar!!

Re: As a guest, what station do you automatically look for at the cocktail hour?
my other stations are:
1. Tuscan and Cheese/Fruit antipasto station 2. Hot Crepes (seafood and spinach/mushroom)
but they have some other great selections like:
- mashed potato bar (which I have heard wonderful things about) - caviar bar - carribbean grill (shish kabobs) - panini station - italian feast station (pizzas, stromboli etc.) - duck station - hot seafood station
After re-reading this menu, I feel like I am being very boring with my choices....
on a side note, i booked the hall with a friend on mine who guaranteed me 6 stations (no matter how many people) and the number 6 is written next to the menu we used when we booked but she never put it IN THE CONTRACT and now she is gone so..... they won't honor it. i am not overly upset b/c i am sure that 4 stations will be enough for the small 125 guest wedding but still....don't know if i should fight for this or not. But I want my margharita bar!!!

Personally I would rather offer my guests some things that are different from the norm. Everyone has a pasta and carving station at their wedding not that there is anything wrong with it, but I think that it would be nice to have something interesting and different. But that is JMO. I would definitely push for a margharita bar... I love them too!!

I added the pasta course to my dinner and I don't think it added much more sitting time - I wanted a part atmosphere at my wedding too...but I also extended my reception rather than the cocktail hour by a half hour.
When I got to a wedding - I do usually eat from the pasta and carving stations which is strange because I like all kinds of foods esp. different type stuff...but then again I feel most weddings have the same stuff and don't add exotic or different stuff. If you have traditional type guests - I would consider having at least one of them.

We had the mashed potato bar and people ate that the most- they still rave about it- it was REALLLLY good...
We also had the tuscan table- it was QUITE the spread.
The carribean grill sounds nice...
We had the hot seafood stations (which was really good too) and the duck/dim sum stations...
I don't think people will miss the carving station or the pasta...

I'm with Jennie, I'd be all over the cheese! it is my weekness, but I think it also goes well iwth coctails. I guess I haven't beento too many traditonal wedings, b/c when we booked out hall, I was shocked that there was a carving station. FH told me there was one at our friends last summer. ( too distracted by the cheese, I guess)
I guess I don't really excpect anything at a coctail hour, b/c they have all been different, so I usualy just explore.
I personally would like the Italian Feast ( mmm, Mini pizzas!) pasta is not neccessary- I thought it was weird, b/c it is more of a meal food to me, but I know my friend was havign it b/c pasta is the only thing he eats. I am having one, b/c it is included. I think its good if you have picky eaters, who may not eat the dinner food, but its not really neccessary.

I love the Seafood station: shrimps, baked clams, calamadi (sp?) and Asian/Chinese station.

I look for the pasta station. Sorry. But I too am eliminating the carving station.
I do think if you do a pasta course instead, that it covers your pasta station. Or you could make one of the chaffing trays pasta!

Sorry to say - I love the pasta station 'cause I do the low carb thing and I only let myself cheat at special occasions! My absolute favorite is the italian meat and cheese station.
