As a guest, what station do you automatically look for at the cocktail hour?

Original post by LauraPete

I don't want to be boring but I feel like people might miss the carving station and the pasta station if I eliminate them. I only get 4 stations.

How does everyone feel about have a pasta course instead? I was thinking it may add too much 'sitting' down time to the reception since i am cutting it short by 1/2 hour to extend the cocktail hour.....

thoughts?

Maybe you could get them to include the past with an Italian choice? At my hall, each station has a bunch of things. If you really want pasta, switch out something you're less interested in. The hot seafood station would be among my top choices.

I always look for the vegetable platter because I love veggies with dip! I'm sure ALL coctail hours have those. I love when they cut the watermelon into shapes. I saw that once.

My favorite is the Pasta Station. I've been to a CH with a Mashed Potato bar and I thought it was really cool, but that was a Bat Mitzvah. I don't know, I don't really like the idea for a wedding - call me crazy.

You REALLY want the Margherita bar - then HAVE the Margherita bar!!!

I'd drop the carving station - I'm not as into it as most people. And they'll get plenty of meat for dinner.

I love the pasta station & ANY station whose food is easy to eat while standing up & mingling. IMO - cut the carving station. I've only been to 2 weddings where you didn't have to sit down to cut & eat the carved meat. Keep it simple!

I LOVE the margarita bar!!!!!!!!

We didn't have a pasta 'station' but it was one of the choices in the chafing dishes.

I don't look for anything in particular - I stroll around to see what looks good & what looks great

my other stations are:

1. Tuscan and Cheese/Fruit antipasto station
2. Hot Crepes (seafood and spinach/mushroom)

but they have some other great selections like:

- mashed potato bar (which I have heard wonderful things about)
- caviar bar
- carribbean grill (shish kabobs)
- panini station
- italian feast station (pizzas, stromboli etc.)
- duck station
- hot seafood station

I would pass up the pasta - too filling and a bit boring. I always think seafood is special and a caviar bar is definitely special and ritzy. I also like the carribbean and duck station options above.

Antipasta & Seafood.

I love the cold antipasto station and seafood station.

Personally, I don't care for the carving and pasta stations, but we're having them because we know people like them.

We're also having a gyro station, mashed potato bar, and a crepe station (seafood or raspberry and creme).

We asked about a Margherita station, but since the bar is already going to have frozen drinks ready to go for the cocktail hour...we decided against it.

I always look for cheese at the cocktail hour, but I'm obsessed with cheese so it might just be me

I am the same exact way!!

I think that pasta at a cocktail hour is kind of inconvenient because it is messy and hard to eat (I have amassed many a dry cleaning bill because when it is there, I cannot help but indulge. atkins dieter i am NOT). I think 4 stations is pretty good.

i always look for the shrimp!! i never eat the pasta or the meat. i always go for the finger foods that are easy to eat, because there is nothing more annoying to me that walking around juggling a little plate in one hand and a drink in the other (which leaves me with no hands to eat with). i'm a clutz and invariably spill stuff on myself.

i don't think that people will miss the pasta and carving stations at all... but then again, i might not trust me because i don't think many people share my opinions about the cocktail hour in general, i think cocktail hours are WAY overdone, and then people don't even touch their meals. less is more! plus, if you are going to serve meat as a main course, no need to serve it at the cocktail hour as well. jmo. i would pick a few really unique stations and cut the meat and pasta. oh, and LOVE the idea of the margarita bar!!!

Cheese!

We're not having a carving station - I just really don't like the whole idea of it.
