And if so, can you tell me what exactly top shelf liquor is?

I always thought 'top shelf' meant black label, but I could be wrong.

Yes, I do. Kertel One, Grey Goose, Belvedere vodkas. Hard liquor I don't drink but there is a difference in cheap whiskey, scotch, cognac and more expensive....

Honestly, I've never noticed. But I'm not a big drinker, and I usually like mixed drinks or wine when I drink

yes, i def feel a difference....only if I drink too much though. well liquor tends to make me get sick, while top shelf does not. But if I overdo it, I'm sick either way.....

Sounds crazy, but...Ketel One & Grey Goose do not give me a headache the next morning like Absolute and other vodkas.

If you have any real drinkers in the crowd, they will notice. If I went to a wedding and they only had rails (the cheap liquor) I would notice and think it looked cheap. IMHO, it's classier to have only beer and wine than to serve cheap liquor.

Find out from the hall what is considered top shelf.
Recently, I was at a wedding, they basically had top shelf, but did not have Malibu...however, the stuff that they served was just as good.
I also heard that halls can serve alcohol in 'top shelf bottles' but they may have the cheap stuff in it. All the halls I looked at, offered top shelf as part of their package. So I would be weary about 'upgrade' could be a con. I would opt for beer & wine.

Me too. I find it harder to recover from the cheaper stuff the next day.

You've come to the right gal. Top shelf are premium brands. Like Kettle one, Grey Goose, Bacardi etc. There is something called well liquor too. This included middle of the road stuff like Absolut vodka. You should have top shelf at your wedding b/c you usually have guests who can tell the difference. I would not assume it is included check with your hall. Also, the Jericho Terrace is known to put the cheap stuff into top shelf bottles. So let them know that you know their game.

just about all halls offer 'top shelf' liquor. people who drink will know the difference. BUT remember that even though they offer 'top shelf' labels for you to see, i.e. Ketel One, Johnny Walker Black, Chivas, etc. but a trick that halls do is they fill up the bottles with the 'good stuff' labels, with alcohol that is either a little cheaper and sometimes water it down to save them money.
i saw on another wedding chat site, that one girl put in her contract at her hall...that all liquor (it was a 'top shelf' place) be SEALED before the day of the wedding, and no bottles that were previously open from another wedding be allowed. the hall was accomodating and added to the contract.
