As a wedding guest, do you notice the difference between Top shelf liquor and regular?

If I had a mixed drink, I probably wouldn't notice whether the alcohol was top shelf or not. I'm not a huge drinker though. People probably notice the difference if they order a martini, scotch, etc. My husband and our friends are scotch snobs and would prefer the good stuff. I'd never expect a place to have the premium stuff and wouldn't care whether someone didn't serve kettle one. I think our interpretation of what constitutes top shelf is different than a catering hall's definition. I wouldn't consider absolute top shelf (to me grey goose and kettle one are top shelf), but I wouldn't be surprised if that is the best vodka served during a 'top shelf' affair.

to the person who had a question about malibu i was really upset but it is not certified kosher so a kosher place cannot serve it. i really wanted it at my wedding but could not have it.

DH and I would definitley notice, as would our friends. Our hall offered a huge list of top shelf liquor and I still added some specifics to it at no extra charge. I was also specific about having a few beers offered. I think we wound up having Bud, Bud Light, Coors Light, Amstel, Heinekin and Corona.

I'm not a huge liquor drinker, but FH always notices the difference right away, and cannot stand when a place gives cheaper liquor in place of top shelf.

I absolutely always notice..particularly with the vodkas. i tend to order belvedere. BUT, if you don't care, then get whatever alcohol you like & fits in your budget! People have fun nonetheless.

I personally would not notice because I am not a drinker. My fiance would notice it because his family owned several nightclubs years ago. Many catering halls do not use name brand liquor and soda. I would make sure that you are getting top shelf liqour. For the price of weddings in this day and age it better be top shelf. My cousins husband used to work at a very well known catering hall and he said they used to replace top shelf liquor with low budget stuff.

haha, i am not a liquor drinker myself, but i can definately tell the difference between bottled beer and not bottled beer.

I would notice but it depends on your crowd. Also, I've heard of some places doing the first XX amount of time/drinks top shelf and then shifting to well unless someone asks specifically if this is a budget constraint for you...

I'm not a big drinker, so I wouldn't notice (as long as I can get some SoCo, I'm cool). But I would think my hall offers top shelf -- I'll have to check.
