As a wedding guest, do you notice the difference between Top shelf liquor and regular?

Original post by brooklynbridezilla

And if so, can you tell me what exactly top shelf liquor is?

Thanks ladies.

I would totally notice, as would my fiance. When I am out and order cosmos, I always specify that I get Grey Goose and Cointreau instead of regular vodka and triple sec. I can taste if one or both were switched.

It was funny, we went to a Jewish wedding (kosher) and they didn't have Malibu, and two or three (non-kosher) guests were so upset! They were like 'what kind of hall is this?' Um, a kosher place.

I don't drink much but for the one or two drinks I have at a wedding, I feel like I should at least get the good stuff. Absolut is okay with me, though.

Most people ask for what they want by brand name... the drinkers at least

they complained? IMO, if someone complains about the liquor at a wedding, it's the same as them complaining about a certain food item not being offered. I would take offense to that. JMO

Honestly, yes, FI and I would notice.

There's a difference in taste when it comes to Absolute Vodka vs. Kettle One Vodka.

Would people notice - maybe - it depends how much of an 'experienced' drinker they are.

I know my guests, and yes, most of them would be upset if we did not serve top-shelf liquor, and for the extra money it is, I think it's worth it.

yes - it may sound snobby, but I have been to plenty of weddings that don't even have the type of white wine I like.....one wedding I was at, I felt really dumb, because I asked for white wine and they didn't have it, so then I asked for Stoli Raspberry or something similar and they didn't have it....etc. etc....like 4 things they didn't have.....I found it really tacky, sorry.

I would notice the difference and a lot of our friends who drink regularly would absolutely notice the difference.

Looks like I will have to insist on Malibu and sealed bottles as well!!!

The only hard liquor I can tell a difference with is Vodka. Everything else can be bottom shelf, I cant tell because I dont drink it.

I just took out the menu from our hall and this is what will be made available to our guests in terms of liquor & beer:

Johnny Walker Red, Tangueray, Dewars Scotch, Beefeater Gin, Smirnoff Vodka, Seagrams, Absolute Vodka, V.O. Rye, Jack Daniels & Baccardi Rum.

Beers: Bud, Bud Light, Heineken, Amstel & Coors Light.

Wine: Imported Reds & Whites

if that's not good enough, tough noogies

ETA: most halls offer top shelf liquor..I mean your paying enough,,thats the least can they offer, no? On our contract is says in bold 'top shelf' liquor..

ours says that too HOWEVER when we went to do menus, they said that top shelf and premium liquor are different and that they could only give premium liquor to the bridal party and family

so make sure!
