Atkins???

Okay ladies heres the deal.... after trying to diet on New Years- that quickly went out the window due to FH saying ... lets start Jan 5 lol!!! So I caved.... and nowwwwww tomorrow is the BIG DAY for a lot of us ladies!!!! Now, I want to lose some weight to see some change bc I get discouraged so easily. WW I've failed because I dont drop weight quickly...but FH does. Im really thinking of doing atkins bc I did it once and dropped like 10 lbs quickly. ANy of you ladies thinking of doing atkins too?? Of course I will be doing my 30 day shred as well

Re: Atkins???

I started out doing Atkins hardcore in 2005. I have kept the weight off since then. I lost 35 lbs on that diet. You have to make it a way of life and not a way to lose weight quickly. Because if you think 'Oh, I can just do this and lose the 10 lbs and eat again whatever I want.' You can't do that with Atkins. After you reach your goal, you can eat bread and stuff but in moderation and only stick with whole grains and high fiber foods. If you have more questions about this, let me know.

I am definately doing WW and not Atkins. But I have done Atkins in the past and it does work. I just don't like to eat that much meat! And usualy when you start to eat carbs again... well lets just say easy weight lost easy weight gain. At least for me anyway when it came to this diet. I've seen people loose major weight in a fast time frame on this diet. One of my mother's friends dropped like 100 lbs on it! If you feel comfortable and it's the fast results you are looking for.. go for Atkins.
And... guys always lose the weight faster than us women! So Unfair!

Re: Atkins???

I'm not doing atkins per se, I'm doing a diet my dad did a number of years ago, he lost 63lbs in 9 months, he cut out cake, cookies, bread, pasta and instead of eating lots of red meat like on atkins, he loaded his diet with shrimp, grilled chicken, leafy greens and berries, (strawberries, blueberries, etc) I already made my lunch for tomorrow, salmon with some spinach, I don't eat red meat so I couldn't deal with eating steak and bacon and eggs every day, so I'm doing, I guess you can call it a variation of Atkins, you need SOME carbs or you'll get sick, I tend to get headaches, like your body goes through withdrawals, but after a week or so you'll feel better, one of the other ladies said it's a change of lifestyle and it really is, you cant start and stop because then it doesnt work. Good luck, any questions, FM me!!!

How did you do it as a way of life? The last time I did this, after 2 weeks I went carb crazyyyyy I ate everything in sight for a whole night lol!!!! I did manage to lose like 10 lbs and felt great.... but I was so sick of the meat. I just hope this time with a wedding and bikinis coming around, I can actually stick it through this time. How long did it take you to lose 35 lbs?

I have never done atkins, I don't diet per se, but I have heard that it's pretty bad for you. I don't think any diet that completely cuts out one food group is good for you, the key is moderation and small portions throughout the day of a balanced meal. Personally I would be weary. Good luck, and be safe!

Try South Beach, it allows carbs after 2 weeks I think, and it seems more healthier than Atkins.

I say no to atkins...and I mean NO.

eat 5 times a day. Lots of LEAN protein at each meal with veggies. Carbs in the morning and at lunch on days you weight train. On days you dont weight train replace the carbs with a healthy fat (almonds, avocado, olive oil etc.)

I have been eating this way since last march and absolutely love it. Works for me and I feelg reat!

If you dont mind me asking, how much did you lose in a month? I am just really starting to get depressed about how I am going to look in a bikini.... I am like 25 lbs over-weight and like all the weight is in my stomach... seriously! My legs are not fat. My arms need to be worked on, but thats a different story lol

Honestly i dont look at the scale but rather at my body and the changins that I have made. I have lost about 15 pounds since I have started and am now maintaining. I have lost inches all around and dropped 2-3 sizes.

Oh wow you dropped 2-3 sizes, thats great!!!! Yea, I am hoping to drop some serious weight fast on Atkins and then just keep something to continue low carbs and lean meat so that I can realistically stay on it. After 2 weeks, I'm normally DONE with not being able to have carbs lol

Re: Atkins???

Atkins only works if you do make it a life style. I lost 70 pounds on it (and kept it off) and it does work. BUT, I don't cheat. I don't eat rice, pasta, bread, sugar, etc. Atkins is NOT about NO carbs...it's about healthy ones like vegetables. You do eventually eat whole grains, etc.

And, exercise is important. If you are going to do Atkins read the book. Don't do it based on what people say.

i did it. i lost weight, but i didn't feel very good. days 3-4, when you start to go into sugar withdrawal, left me nauseous and with a terrible headache. i lost just as much weight at a similar pace managing portions, eating lean proteins & whole grains, fruits and veggies and exercising 4 or so times a week. GL! i'm starting tomorrow too.

Re: Atkins???

I have done Atkins before, and I'm going to do it again starting tomorrow and then I am also going to do the shred. If you have never done Atkins before, go to the website and learn it, or read his books. He's not all about no fruit or veggies. There are 4 phases, and as you loose weight, you begin to add things back into your diet. If you are going to do it, drink PLENTY of water to keep hydrated and prevent getting constipated, and to protect your kidneys.
It's a great diet, and can give you awesome results!

I just can't get used to or comfortable with a diet that lets you eat tons of red meat and saturated fats but severely limits things like whole grains and fruits...just doesnt sit well with me! but to each her own!

Re: Atkins???

I'm currently exercising and doing the diabetic diet. I have already lost 40 pounds, but I've hit a wall during the holidays. The diabetic diet has carb counting (small amounts of whole grains, no white sugar) lots of fruits and veggies, lean meats, low-fat dairy, and healthy fats. I think it is so much better than Atkins!
