Original post by dawnbon26

Hi Ladies,

My Fh & I are getting married 9/15/12, my soon to be daughter will be getting married Oct 2013. She is starting to look at venues. She is interested in Atlantis in Riverhead or Thatched Cottage. If anyone has quoted for either could you please FM them to me and also your opinions of either place.

Thanks.

I find reading this to be completely surprising. Ralph is the owner and is really hands off; I beleive he's the chef - he leaves the negotiations to the staff. I love the Thatched...96 days to go for us!!!

Thanks for clearing that up about Ralph.

Something was very odd about that comment regarding TC....

Btw, I just looked at your engagement pictures (they are beautiful btw!) & I think you were sitting in the row right in front of my fiance' & I during the ceremony at TWOTY! haha random!

My FI's cousin got married at Atlantis. I didn't really like it. First off, it was very humid in there (obviously because it's an aquarium) so everyone's hair was a disaster by the end of the night. The layout was very odd, and during dinner, the bride and groom were completely separated from the rest of the guests (they were upstairs, everyone else was downstairs). It is a unique place to have it, but it is not elegant whatsoever. Could be great for a party, but not a wedding.

Just wanted to share how amazing Thatched Cottage is - FH & I are doing a tasting on Saturday (even though we know we are going to book that night - I'm bring the check with me ). My father just had gum surgery on Friday, and is going in for another session this Friday, so he can't really eat. I called to ask if my brother can also come (because he's being a baby and complaining lol) and it was absolutely no problem that we are bringing one person more than we were supposed to. They are very accommodating. Loving them more and more every time I talk to them - I CAN'T WAIT TO BOOK!

Thatched Cottage 100%! My sister got married there! I went to a wedding at the Atlantis Aquarium and was not impressed. It smelled a bit fishy, but also, the area where you dance is in a completely different area than where you sit for dinner. Strange set up IMO.

THE THATCHED COTTAGE IS NO BUENO.
THE OWNER IS SO RUDE AND OBNOXIOUS.
HE IS NOT EASY TO WORK WITH AT ALL AND NEITHER IS HIS STAFF. HE NICKLE AND DIMES YOU ON EVERYTHING.

He absolutely does not 'nickel & dime'. We got an awesome deal/package and because we technically booked when the menus changed/were in the process of changing, they threw in the menu differences free of charge. Doesn't sound like nickel & dime-ing to me.

The owner & staff at Thatched Cottage have been beyond amazing. Nothing but polite, sweet, helpful people.
They return phone calls in a timely manner, even invite you to just come and talk about your wedding 'vision' with them at ANY TIME.
To me that's a dream come true when it comes to working with a reception hall and planning the biggest party of your life.

Ps... your cap locks on.

I had THE BEST experience with Thatched Cottage when FH & I were looking at venues. It was the 2nd place we looked at and I couldn't get it out of my head.

Nickle and dime people? I don't believe that for a second. When we went to look, they threw in a mini VH if we booked by a specific date (which was 2 or 3 weeks away). You also get to do a tasting BEFORE you book (which isn't always what happens) and they give you a TON of food. Doesn't really sound like they are trying to nickle and dime you there. We had 15 h'orderves, 2 major meals, 3 bottles of champagne, and several desserts to try. Plus, there were 7 of us at this tasting! I want to know how many places are willing to do this.

I knew you'd back me, Jess!
But seriously, I had the exact same experience
And yes! good point! I didn't even think to mention the free full course tasting for 6 that I had before booking!!!

Thatched Cottage is definitely not a 'nickel & dime' you kinda place.

Stay away from Atlantis! All I have heard is how horrible it was, the food was bad the service was worse. It's not even worth the trip!
