Attorneys who changed their last name after the wedding...help!

I am planning on taking FH's surname after the wedding, and I wanted to know how and when to change my name for the New York Bar...it looks like a pain...help! I appear in court every day, and I wanted to know if there is a way to have my name changed with OCA so when I get back from the HM (i am taking two weeks off after the wedding) I can begin to use my new name! I want to make sure I don't give the wrong name for the record!

Can I apply for a name change after I get the marriage license? This is making me nuts!

You cannot change your name with the bar until after you are married. I would call the department that you were admitted in.

I am not going to change my name with the bar so I do not know how involved it is but you will have to get a new secure pass also which will take at least 6 weeks after you are married.

You have to change your name after you are married. You need to contact the judicial department where you were admitted about changing your name.

You cannot use your new name on the record,or for any legal practice until you have been notified by the bar that your name change has gone through, and that you are authorized to practice under a different name.

Yup, until then you just continue using your maiden name.
